US Tariff War

Her actual job is to push the line to take from the boss, not be an arbiter of the truth. If it is lies, then it's her job to push them and make them as plausible as possible. I don't know quite what else people are expecting - it's essentially a PR role, not a quality assurance or fact checking one.
Her job is to push the line without lying in the most obvious way.

When she does lie, she will get criticised. Can't see how anyone has any problem with that.

She didn't say that was her job, she said she'd always tell the truth.

Carry on defending crap if you want.

Absolutely, not my point. I was just saying she's a mouthpiece, not an arbiter of truth.

You misunderstand me. She indeed didn't say that's her job. It's me saying that his her job, as it is with any other whitehouse press spokesman. She's there to articulate the thoughts of the boss, not referee them. If trump spouts bollocks her job is to spout the same bollocks and field questions without compromising the bollocks if possible - even if that doesn't involve being truthful.

Canada has announced 25% retaliatory tariffs on US goods worth C$29.8bn (£16bn) from 13 March, its country's finance minister has said.

The tariffs will include steel products worth C$12.6bn (£6.8bn) and aluminium products worth C$3bn (£1.6bn).

Computers, sports equipments and cast iron goods are also among the other products subject to the new retaliatory tariffs.

Addressing the US, Canada's foreign minister Melanie Joly said: "I want you to remember this - Canada is your best friend, best neighbour and best ally."

I agree trump does seem more anti-china, but if you take past behaviour as an indicator of future behaviour (as we all seem content to do with Putin and trump) then China is more likely to buy/bribe it's way into Taiwan than invade it. As far as military build up in the Pacific goes, you could argue that China's is an appropriate response.
Trump will probably cut a deal with China by giving them Taiwan in return for dropping tariffs on Trump merch made there.

He did actually mention putting huge tariffs on Taiwan at some point to try and leverage them to move manufacture of microchips to the US!

Mainland China's invasion of Taiwan, should it occur, would be likely be far, far more costly than Russia's invasion of Ukraine - at least from what I've read.

So although that China would dearly love to take over Taiwan, logistics and that their leadership isn't batshit crazy - indicates that Chinese invasion of Taiwan isn't going to happen any time soon.

Sounds like scotch is safe. Finally the benefits of Brexit appear.
