TV Series

Anyone else keeping up with S2 of Severance? Only 2 episodes left and a ridiculous number of loose ends. I mean it’s good to leave the audience in limbo a little, but this series is pushing it, just a tad.

I’m minded of the ‘it’s better to travel hopefully than arrive’ phrase, because I’ve a nagging feeling that when all is finally said and done, be it in a fortnight or whenever the last series wraps if there is more to come, I have that ‘meh, is that it?’ feeling.
Just rewatched season 1 and raced through season 2. I think the nature of the show is that it's going to leave some things unexplained and for good reason - ie what kind of explanation can they have for what the data is they are refining that will make sense and be satisfying? Although now I've written that I've remembered they've been setting up the Cold Harbor thing so maybe there will be some resolution (i'm thinking they are refining people's memories and removing trauma - thus explaining Ms Casey's demeanour).

For me I'm just enjoying spending time with the characters and seeing how they will develop the religious angle more - i'm picking up hints of Christianity, Mormonism and Scientology.

The atmosphere and vibe of this show has been spot on - when they take you out of the white hallways it still feels like care and attention is being paid and I've loved all the little subplots like Ricken and Mark's relationship as innie and outie. Major props for the theme music as well which is perfect.

This, slow horses and season one of ted lasso are worth a month or two of apple tv subscription to binge

I’m pretty sure there will be a third series so they have to leave some loose ends.

There is definitely a cultish vibe throughout but the combination of 70’s themed cars and furniture with modern day mobile phones is an intriguing angle that doesn’t need an explanation (IMO) but adds to the mystery of the series.

I think I mentioned in an earlier post that I’ve never seen a series with so much depth and hidden/double meaning - I saw this on a YouTube roundup but there are Lumen logos littered throughout the series and the fleeting presence of the doctor (can’t remember his name) when Mark and Gemma are at the fertility clinic is inspired (I don’t think this is a spoiler).

Im really not looking forward to the series being over

Yeah Ms Corbel's car I find really interesting - she mustn't be paid management salary so must be a true believer but I can't figure out how that works with what she recovered from her mums house (she should be having her silence paid for). I've just started listening to the podcast that Ben Stiller and Adam Scott do which is pretty interesting and i think shows how much things can change in development.

Sheesh I think i'll rewatch the whole thing again when season two wraps as i think i've missed loads - i enjoy the mystery but i enjoy the characters more. I think i could watch the defiant jazz episode on repeat just for Milchicks dancing alone. I think it's incredible what they've done with Irving and Zach and the side characters like Devon and Ricken just feel so well realised - their lives feel like they carry on when we aren't watching rather than them just waiting for Mark to show up.

Season 2 does suffer a little from isolating story lines into specific episodes - like Corbel's story this season - which can sometimes feel like filler episodes as a consequence BUT I'm sure it'll resolve back into the main story. If i was being super picky i think they rushed bringing back Marks team too quickly - i'd like to have seen more with their replacements but i guess it could have easily got bogged down there

Ted Lasso is class.

Penultimate episode of S2 of Severance is out and it’s a corker. If you haven’t stuck with it you’re missing out.
I can’t think of a better series on TV that tops this one for intrigue and depth of characters.

Just to add, getting the cast right for a series to hit the spot is crucial, and this one has been perfectly cast.

it looks like cold harbour is the final piece of the Lumon jigsaw, could it be a pain free suicide room? Is this what Mark is has almost finished building and will Gemma be the one to test it out? Lots of hints in this episode

Looks like you’ve pulled me back in……

Recently watched 2 basketball series on Netflix.

Court of Dreams about the Basketball Olympics in France.

Starting 5 about 5 key players throughout the 2024 season. Much better I thought.

Adolescence on Netflix.

Watched it all in one go last night. Well worth a Friday evening binge.

A few things caught my eye that's getting released for next several weeks.

New series of Gangs of London, 20th March

The city is ours, 21st March (BBC)

Friends and Neighbours 11th April Apple TV)

For any fans of historical drama.
Looking forward to BBC1 series King and Conqueror due to air this year based on the Norman invasion of 1066.
Good cast with James Norton,Eddie Marsen and the Danish actor who played Jaime Lanaster in GOT.
Eight x one hour episodes.

Just finishing series 1 of Yellowstone. Pretty wank to be fair. There’s 1 overriding theme running in the background to do with a battle for land ownership between the whites and the Indians but the rest of the scenes are absolutely random and in no way support the rest of the show eg. When he caught the bus load of Japanese tourists in his field while there was a grizzly bear there. Pointless!
