Brighton and Hove Albion PL (H) | Post Match Thread

I thought 2-2 was a fair result and about the best we could expect?
We’re a bit off it , and Brighton are punching well above their weight

With the fixtures we have left , l am very confident a champions league place for next season will be secured !

Special praise to Doku and Marmoosh
Doku was dreadful, particularly his end product

Good attack.. Omar spectacular.. best player on the pitch!

But we were shit in midfield and defense as Brighton clearly had better chances to win it.

Something is seriously wrong.. if 34 year old Gundogan seems more pissed off and angry than everyone else. It's like they don't want it anymore.

At least it wasn't a late defensive collapse! Lucky to escape with a point!
Shit in Midfield, sums it up.

I used to think that the genius of Pep was filling his team with "Midfield" players.

No out and out wingers, defenders who could move forward and slot in, 1 striker at most who could drop back, sometimes no Striker at all.

It was seamless and we dominated games and tired the oppo' out.

I do not know wtf we are trying to achieve now.

2 out and out wingers stuck to the lines, we have never done that. It leaves our average at best Midfield completely over run.

It wouldn't so bad if the wide men found our world class Centre Forward once in a while but they never do.

Savinho first half should have scored that chance or at least played it to the middle for 1 of 2 to score. Instead he side footed it over.

We don't seem to have players who can strike a ball cleanly, weird.

Doku second half and good play, Erl peels away into space and there was no pass to him!

I said to my mate next to me after 5 minutes, if they score first we'll get hammered.
Thankfully we did and took the lead for a second time but we never looked comfortable.

In the last week we have taken 1 point from teams that appear a lot better than they are, virtue of the fact it's a poor league this year.

Will be lucky to get top 4/5 but the bigger worry for me is next season.

I'm not convinced any of our signings have shown enough to be top drawer either. We have more players on the way down form and fitness wise that need replacing, there is no strong core to the team.

Maybe OTT I know but for me ,today was a must win and we looked fucking keystone cops again!

A strange game to say the least, probably good for a neutral.
For a change I'm not in the all doom and gloom camp. Obviously we're miles off our usual level but at times we looked a little like our usual selves. Brighton are no mugs but we had them pinned in their own half for long periods, especially in the second half. We are still too soft in defence and weak in midfield and a draw was probably a fair result, although thankfully they missed a sitter near the end. Savinho should be fined everytime he shoots, he's fucking hopeless. Doku had a good game but again the end product could have been better. Haaland ineffective aside from the penalty. He has to get into the training pitch and work and work in his first touch, his hold up play and his heading. I'm fed up hearing that's not his game, well he needs to make it part of his game.
Like a lot of games this season, good in parts and hopeless in others, but some of our movement and interchange was better.
It's going to be a struggle getting top five and a lot of work is needed on getting top quality recruitments in the summer. I'm.not liking Peps comments that next season we'll have Rodri, Ake, Akanji and Stones when at least three of them are never fit. Please strengthen!

People who would have accepted a league title every five years before Pep arrived are now kicking off that it's not five in a row and we are in a scrap for top four. The poor bastard is the biggest victim of his own success.
I’d ask jokingly who’s ready for a protest but some mad fucker would take me up on it lol

No issue with the score, either side could have nicked it and at our current level it was a good result against a really good side. My gripe is with our wingers. Doku runs himself into the ground but continues to make the wrong decisions and often gives the ball back to the opposition. Rarely scores on top of that. Savvy has undoubted talent but will not give us a goal even if the opposition had no goalkeeper and again often loses the ball. Both not good enough certainly at this period in time. Problem is this is happening week in week out. Lewis adds nothing at all to the team.
True. I think the issue with our wingers is that we don't really know what to do with them. Doku can run his a** off but he will seemingly never find a person in the middle of the box to pass it to and they rarely make it through anyway. There were a couple times in this game where he cut back and should have shot but he passed back to the arc and then its "wash-rinse-repeat" over and over. Savinho just seems to lack a finishing shot. Its frustrating.

As others keep saying, the good news its one less game till the end of the season. I think the lads are just tired. Their mentality is cooked. You're on top for so long, and the team hasn't really changed. Veterans are psychologically gassed. Nothing left to play for. This, and the game has become more pacey and less possession based.

That's a cat comment
No it’s a comment from someone who is watching the games from a non biased opinion . Pep has done wonders for this club and will go down as a legend and greatest manager and we will look back when’s he’s gone and say he was great but the present is here and atm he is getting it wrong week in week out but it’s like everyone is scared to call him out .

He's playing the same as when he set the goal scoring record. Did it annoy you then? If so fair enough. I think he plays a particular way and it worked when the team was working. Though it does annoy me his ambling sometimes.
It worked when other teams didn't catch up tactically.
It's no coincidence.
Not just the prem in Europe too..

Aguero was attacked by Pep for not working hard enough for the team. He was a brilliant striker but under Pep ha improved all round. Haaland is a brilliant striker but does nothing other than score. His hold up play is very poor, ball control likewise. He does nothing other than score. If Aguero got shit off Pep why is Haaland given a free pass , he was missing yet again today.
If I could like it twice..

Think most are simply mystified at the lack of adaptability going on. The manager has constantly carped about players out injured but most have come back and not much has changed. His previous successes make him immune from being sacked but how many games do we have to botch before he finally changes the system or tries something different?

For months i've watched Lewis/Nunes, Kovacic/Gundogan rotated in and out and subsequent players brought in, but not even the slightest change of the way we play.

I can't see us shipping in and out ten or more players in the summer so something has to change in regards to formation and style of football.

It’s odd because I do think if we sat back a little more and absorbed some pressure, with less of a high line, we’d score boat loads on the break.

A system like that would suit all of our current forwards to a tee and the lack of pace of some of our midfielders wouldn’t be as much of a problem.

However, rightly or wrongly, Pep isn’t the kind of man to relent on his principles. I’m almost certain he would rather us finish outside the top four and keep playing his way than anything else.

I’ll say that Peps system is the absolute best system when you have the players for it but don’t currently have the best players for it.

We’ll be back next year, we’ll all love Pep again and everybody calling for him to be sacked will look like a mug.

It is what it is, a year outside the top 4 wouldn’t be a disaster for anybody with long memories.

Evolution from the heights of being the best team in the world for 5 seasons is proving to be more difficult than most thought it would be.

Players don't choose to be fatigued or injured or to miss chances or to play badly.

We've 'collapsed' from a perfect storm of brilliance to a perfect storm of mediocrity.

If guys of the insight & experience of Pep & Tixxi didn't expect it,how could we ??

The 'evolution' from where we are to where we've got to be will take more than one season and will have plenty of bumps and setbacks.

Supporters will have to learn to support the team again if the journey isn't going to be fraught and frustrating, today's support was pathetic !!
i get your points mate and im not here to argue, i do think Pep and the staff were somewhat blinded not to see an aging KDB, his form fell soon after the CL final and it was plain to see he had hit that stage in his career where its a downhill slope, he should have been shipped out for his last pay day the following season, IMO that alone is bad management you can also add the re signing of Gundogan, Good management is not just about winning its about rebuilding as we progress through the years of successfull football, Pep has failed to replace players of same quality or better through recent years and thats negligent

There’s calling him out, then there is being a total disrespectful bastard by calling him ‘Guardiola’.

That comment from the cat **** was as cunty as it gets, and he or she can fuck right off.
