Totally agree, there's no point whinging every week about where we are and how we're playing when we're playing half the squad that wouldn't normally be playing. I don't normally single out players, but Gvardiol's not the answer at LB, he doesn't close down enough, he doesn't try and tackle until they're in the box, then it's half-hearted because he doesn't want to give a pen away and his distribution is awful at times, often putting the ball out under very little pressure. But with Stones, Ake, Akanji etc out, Dias missing games and countless others means it's not just about injuries, it's about how the constant chopping and changing affects how we play. That's not an excuse, we had 11 players out at one stage. You said
In football you're only as good as your next game,
In your world does that mean we have to forget the last 7 years & ignore the fact that long term, we have 3 main defenders out as well as our ballon d’or winner.
This is NOT an excuse - no PL club could cope with that situation any better than we have - but it has affected our season. True supporters will recognise this.
I also think we're suffering to a degree from the fact that teams know how to play against us, i.e. put ten men behind the ball and hit us on the break. I hate to say it and never thought I would but maybe, just maybe, we need a complete change rom the top down, but to be fair we need to see how we play when we're back to strength. But while you can cope with two or three players out here and there, you can't spend an entire season with key injuries all the way through and expect much more than what we've got.
I think we've been a bit unlucky a lot of the time too, there ha been a lot of odd goals, the sort of half chances that 9 times out of 10 don't go in like the ricochet off Khusanov today which was slightly bizarre, Doku getting booked for simulation for jumping over a player to avoid injury then shortly after a Brighton player going down clutching his neck shortly after that should have been a second yellow for simulation, and just prior to the corner that led to their second it looked like Minteh was offside, but not spotted. Most of the season seems to have been like that.
