Having earlier hit the crossbar with a strike from distance,Kinkladze broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when he turned the ball into the Southampton net from close range.

However, what happened just four minutes later had the City faithful drooling.Lomas picked out Kinkladze wide out on the right flank. From there,he jinked inside Charlton, who failed in his attempt to out-muscle Kinkladze. Then,as he reached the edge of the area, two sliding tackles, including one from Monkou missed which left City's attacking midfielder with just goalkeeper Beasant to beat.

A little jink fooled the Saints goalkeeper and that allowed Kinkladze to loft the ball into the opposite corner of the net for what is one of the best goals in Premier League history.

Tisdale halved the deficit midway through the second half, but City held out to claim all three points.

CITY: Immel; Frontzeck, Brightwell, Curle, Symons; Summerbee, Clough, Flitcroft, Lomas; Kinkladze; Rosler

SOUTHAMPTON: Beasant; Dodd, Monkou, Neilson, Hall, Charlton; Hughes, Oakley, Tisdale; Le Tissier, Shipperley

Was in the Main Stand that day. I’ll always remember the feeling in the ground after the goal. Everyone knew that they’d just witnessed a truly great goal. One of the very best at Maine Road without doubt.

God bless Kinky.
Yep, I was in the main stand that day too. Was right behind him when he first picked the ball up and went on his run to score - magical!

Remember them having a very late equaliser ruled out for offside.

And I think Tony Yebohah got goal of the season

I always stood in the open corner between the Kippax & North Stand as the rake was better due to me being a bit in the short arse side but for some unknown reason I moved at halftime level with the penalty area and had a great view of that goal.

I'd never done that before and never did again......woooo.....strange things.

I was in a phone box on Claremont Rd. I was on call for work , no mobile and my pager went off!!!
Steward let me out and waited for me to come back (the days of real people)
Missed the 2nd one too
Got back in to Southampton score !!!!

Saw this gem at the weekend, didn’t realise he was into wine

I was in the umbro stand with two of my very young sons at the time, to say it was a good goal would be an understatement, it was probably the greatest individual goal I have ever seen from a City player and I was glad my sons, even though they can't remember it, were there to witness it. It was truly a thing of beauty

Pretty sure the last day of the old Kippax was the last day of the 93/94 season v Chelsea
Yep 30th April 1994 was the last match on the Kippax, against Chelsea yes.

We then got seats in the same spot we used to stand (and have had the same for 22 years at the etihad too) and remember Kinky's Southampton magic like yesterday.

29 years ago though.... Then again being 22 years at the etihad is a mind fuck too. Can someone tell me why time speeds up as you get older?! ;)
