Sad news, I didn't realise he was from London originally, only really remember him from radio 1 after I moved up to Scotland in 1981, when at work it was the only thing I had there in a lone office.

Don’t think he was a Manchester lad so can’t remember why he became a Blue (not sure if he was maybe a student in Manchester?) but whatever he did he always came across as a really nice affable and thoroughly decent bloke. I always thought he was from wigan, sure I heard him talking about it once on radio 1.
