Beat me to it ;-)Pink Floyd
Syd/Gilmour
I love Syd but no David Gilmour just doesn't bear thinking about
I think it depends on your point of view, after they replaced Syd no'one was able to write top 10 hits so they morphed into a sort of space rock band with long jams like on Saucerfull of Secrets.Pink Floyd - Whilst not a direct replacement for Syd Barrett, Dave Gilmour certainly improved things with Syd going just a year later.

I wasn't impressed with their meanderings. I liked Syd's catchy songs.
He was an incredible frontman. Great singer, incredible songwriter.
I seriously doubt that. But none of us know.Depspite his individual brilliance I think Syd leaving improved their chances of longevity. Had he stayed sane they probably would have burned out anyway like so many pop acts of that era.
