CL QF 2nd leg chelsea (A) Thu Mar 27th 20:00

A game too far. Unable to match Chelsea’s physicality and well beaten. Hopefully key players will come back from injury next season and there will be some decent recruitment as well.

We have got progressively worse in the last few games whilst they have actually got progressively better.
Today we have looked clueless, like a mid table team. There was no shape, no plan. We played the game in isolation as though there was no opposition on the pitch. It's why we were constantly caught in possession, constantly needing to take a second touch then of course losing the ball, constantly taking far too long to get a shot away.
We looked very tired, the injuries would not have helped that as they all had to play again but we threw that away in a rash 30 mins.

Chelsea miles the better side and deserved the win.

Kanaryd best player on the pitch.

There are so many who are simply not good enough.

Roord, Fowler, Ouhabi, Alexandrei, Prior, Coombs. All soft as shite and nowhere near fit enough. It’s like having 6 current version Gundogans on the pitch.

We severely lack presence and aggression.

Keating only player to give a good representation of herself tonight.

I wonder where things have gone wrong for City in recent years. I used to look at City and be scared of playing them, even though we were winning titles, I always felt City always outplayed us whenever we played each other.

Is it underfunded? Is it poor choice of manager? Poor recruitment? Because a few years ago I looked at City as on equal footing as Chelsea in terms of quality and title favourites.

Heard you sold a 3 bedroom hotel for 300m to find the Women's team.

They are miles ahead of us.
Better and deeper squad, we could only put 5 on the bench tonight out of 10 places. They recruit top quality coaches, we had Taylor. They spend heavily and invest in the women’s team and it shows.
We are the 4th best team in the WSL and closer to becoming the 5th than finishing in the top 3 again.
They must get a top quality manager in the summer.
Coaching has become a huge issue across the group this season, both men’s and women’s have awful injuries and fitness issues so you do need to look at the medical/conditioning teams, set pieces for both are woeful, both give so much away from sloppy passing esp in the middle.
A serious refresh is needed.

Agree about the manager situation. We stuck with Taylor for far too long and now we are where we are because of it. The women's game has moved on and we are starting to fall behind.

We need a top class women's coach in the summer and not some add on from the men's game. Someone who has been involved in,preferably European, women's football and knows the players, the teams and the game.

Get some our injured players back, couple of good signings and continued development of some of the younger players and it's not looking all bad.

By all accounts our budget is less than Chelsea and Arsenal, we need to increase that if we wsnt to compete.

FWIW I'm looking forward to the day when we can play a game without constant references to Taylor. The club has moved on, we should too.

You’ve bought all the best players.

Simple as that mate.

Even last year!

Really disappointing night. Guess in the end it was too big an ask for them to last the pace with Chelsea across four games with such a depleted squad. Think it's fair to say we went toe to toe with them in the first three games and did ourselves proud with an unprecedented nunber of injuries. But to go again for the fourth time in 12 days was just a game too far.

Think Chelsea knew we running on empty going into this and that we also had no options to change things up. They knew what the needed to do and executed the plan perfectly. I think we did invite way too much pressure on ourselves in the opening 20 minutes, but maybe we just didn't think we had any other option than to try cling on.

I'm gutted but for me, this doesn't define our season. The bigger problem is that our failures earlier in the season have left us with next to no chance of making top 3. It's unforgivable to have found ourselves in that situation.

Reasons to be cheerful. With a couple of additions at the back, we will be in great shape heading into next season if everyone's fit. It will be a great squad and I'm excited to see what it can do with a manager who isn't Gareth Taylor in charge

Sometimes in football you just have to hold your hand up and say Chelsea not only were the better team but the best team in the Womens League by a country mile.
We did very well last season to run them until the final day and got pipped by G/D but this season we have had some major injuries which hasn`t helped.
To date their only defeat this season has been by our girls.

Sadly, it’s hard to take issue with any of that pal.

A team that takes a 2-0 lead into a second leg and loses 3-0 doesn’t deserve to move on, no matter who they are.
True, but there is some mitigation.

We only had about 5 subs. We’ve got so many out injured that our other players are now knackered due to no possible rotation.

However, we could have tried not to lose possession in defence so often in the first half.

Over the 4 recent games we lost 4-7 on aggregate. Probably a fair reflection tbh.
Seems to be the theme of ‘transition’ running through the entire club at the moment. Building work off the pitch at the Etihad and at the training ground being carried out, new manager for the women’s team, new Chief Operating Officer at the club, pending court case becomes decided etc. It genuinely does feel like we need to have endured this season, get all our ducks in a row and go for it next season with renewed vigour.
Up the Blues!

They have been, for a long time. 7 of the last 9 WSL titles.
