President Trump

You’ll be calling me a Rag next. Sorry I do not like modern news presenters that give an opinion or use emotional presentation to lead viewers. I much prefer being given the facts then being left to form my own opinion.
Spot on. I too hate biased reporters, especially if they're not female - I hate females!

And you mention the BBC! OMG I totally agree! What a left-leaning, scumbag, lying outlet. Just look here!:

So stay tuned to Fox News - there's a neutral outlet both you and I can rely upon for factual news letting us decide the truth of matters for ourselves!

A nation has no balance sheet for trade.

A highly developed economy with an affluent consumer market will suck in imported goods to satisfy demand. Less developed, less affluent and it will suck in less.
Trade deficits must be accounted for on the balance sheet by selling assets. You are just repeating your error. Go ask an accountant.

Your take is naive.

Curbs on absolute free speech already exist. It's a crime to shout "fire" in a crowded movie theater if there is in fact no fire, for example.

Why? - because such speech is false and because it leads to clear societal danger if allowed.

And, IMO, there's zero difference between shouting "fire" in a crowded movie theater when no fire exists, and proclaiming obvious mistruths as fact in social media posts or news broadcasts, obscuring truth from fiction, rendering logical, fact-based reasoning impossible. Moreover, the later - outright lying without consequence in social media/news broadcasts, has far, far greater potential for human tragedy than crying "wolf" in a crowded theater.
Ok - whatever the symantics, maybe I should have said 'free hearing' instead.

After all, if his gibberish, lies and vitriole had fallen upon deaf ears, we wouldn't be where we are now

They are all reasonable assumptions,
I would suggest (1) is the safest bet (2) I imagine the number of people continuing to self-harm in the voting booth will be higher than you'd hope due to the cult like effect, but you'd like to think there will still sufficient numbers to punish the government's behaviour. Which leaves (3).

On paper you'd have thought that was the safest bet but I'm not so sure anymore. The probability of attempting to subvert the democratic process I think is high with this administration but the real question is whether they can succeed in doing it? I would suggest the probability of that is increasing based on how much more effective Trump has been this time round in removing barriers to his behaviour. I also think that the people behind him this time are quite a lot more organised and malevolent. Given how high the impact would be of a successful vote suppression (or worse) then even a low to middling probably makes the risk worth focusing on. From the bits I've seen, it seems like you guys feel that the judiciary and rule of law will hold the line and that ultimately will be enough? Or maybe I'm misunderstanding the situation, either way I'm interested in understanding why there isn't a bit more twitchiness about what could happen in 2026.

Btw - I think Alvin might be Chinese Dax so it might not be worth going there!
Alvin makes more sense than Dax about his own country

My proposal for news broadcast/social media posts is that an independent panel judges such posts - and if deemed non-factual, a warning is required along with a link to why the warning was issued.
mmm... would that require much work, do you think?

3 islands with 1000 quid each. Lanzarote, Wight and Mull.

Lanzarote imports stuff from Wight but produces nothing. Mull has no contact with either and is self sufficient.

Lanzarote quickly runs out of money. Wight has it all. But then there's a problem Wight has produce it can't sell as Lanzarote can't buy. Extend credit seems to be the answer. Or Lanzarote starts printing money.

Both these options allow the relationship to continue

How anyone couldn't see that Trump was pushing the UK towards destruction when he sold the idea of Brexit to the UK, he is almost close to accomplishing that and has now turned his attention to Europe.
Trump wasn't president though when brexit happened, and he had essentially no influence on that vote. He's responsible for many things, but that isn't one. As for europe, he's doing a better job of forcing european cooperation than anyone has done for a while.

Didn’t a right leaning politician once say there’s lies damn lies and statistics ? Or was that Mark Twain ??
So I’m afraid I will I’ll continue to collect what facts I can glean and continue draw my own conclusions, at my own pace.

Among other numerous posts.

You are engaged in selective curation - if in fact you are engaged in curation at all... discarding any opinion/fact/poll/observation counter to what you mistakenly believe as falsehood.

He was president in the years building up to the final brexit vote, he played a huge role in Brexit, manipulating the gullible British population. Brexit didn't just happen over night, there was a lot of talk about it for years and Trump, Farage and Johnson collaborated to make it happen.

It was Twain. As you well know.

Your ability to "collect what facts I can glean" is compromised by your world-view. You have zero ability to form an opinion on political matters free of bias because you are blind. You've made up your mind and any opinion to the contrary, is baised, untrustworthy, false.

And so you likely believe in the following bullshit:
* Vaccinations are dangerous and unwarranted. The risk of vaccination against disease far outweighs the consequences of catching disease.

* God exists. And those who think otherwise are morally bankrupt. Furthermore, you can simply pray away any and all potentially bad outcomes. God will intervene on your behalf so long as you pray enough.

* Science, experts and informed opinion are entirely wrong. Because scientists, experts and others with informed opinion cannot be trusted. Instead, form your own opinion based on whatever posts you can Google. And while you're at it, label your Googling venture as "research." When arguing a point, claim that you've conducted extensive "research" into the matter... meaning instead that you've lapped up opinion pieces in support of your view, however dubious.

* Climate change is a hoax. And even if not it's exaugurated bulllshit. No big deal as in millions of years past climate was much warmer even than now.

So good luck Silva Citizen. I've no idea what you're going to do when the next pandemic breaks out, maybe avian flu - surely you won't follow expert opinion.

And what of your grandchildren. That "climate hoax" you've been so keen on debunking will catch up with them. If they live on the coast, their houses will sink under water. If they live away from the coast, the cost of re-homing all coastal citizens will be a huge financial burden. Moreover, rich fertile lands may well transform into arid deserts and vice versa. Your precious country is for sure going to undergo massive climate-induced change - but no matter, the petroleum company rhetoric arguing against this future is 100% bias free and is to be trusted absolutely. And even if you've made a massive miscalculation here - who cares? It won't much affect you, personally. Fuck your children's children.
