You had one'rs which were the bog standard marble.

Two'ers were fancy coloured things and cats eyes and some ball bearings nicknamed luckies .

4'ers were dobbers, bigger than your average marble.

That's my memory of them anyhoo.

I used to have some decent chinas, used to play footy on the manhole covers at school, they had a keyhole at either end for the goals

Yeah, I recall it used to describe the brick built middle passage of a block of 4 houses called at the time quasi semis.

Hence the phrase to describe a bow legged person, (frequent in the 40/50s)
"Couldn't stop a pig in a ginnel".
