Pep did what many of us have wanted him to do over the years and that's be pragmatic.

A useful point for City. Win our home games and draw away. That will be good enough.

I do wonder though how we are going to break Palace down. We can't start KDB and Gundogan again.
1 point don’t help us. Those shit wankers should have been there for the taking. Pep’s pragmatism is putting us on the back foot the second the whistle blows.

As fans our biggest hurdle is accepting we are not watching the same quality as we've been privileged for years. 20 years ago we would have been celebrating a draw today, but now we always expect to beat them. As poor as we were they could not beat us on their own patch. The middle of the park needs revamping with players of pace and top quality. I think Pep knows what he is doing, his CV tells me that, but we cant expect success year in year out.

Play a load of kids when top 4 is at stake?

So we do that today and get bummed 4-0. Imagine the pelters Pep would get?
Play a new system in April, sack off the tactics that has made him the most successful manager of his generation, chuck on the kids who can't speak the language, sack off the coach and give it Ferna till the end of the season, what could go wrong. We'll waltz to a top five position.

We have tried many times with the Old Guard, with the same ending. Put some of the younger players in and watch them work 10 times harder than the shower Pep keeps picking currently.

Toothless, vulnerable.

Zero threat going forward, always on eggshells with them within 25-30 yards.

They played a hard 5-4-1 and were back in their shell within seconds of losing possession, but broke with speed when offered the chance.

A 100 year old midfield three created exactly what you’d expect…NOTHING!

Our attacking was summed up in the first half when Marmoush made 3 different runs while Gundo dithered on the ball, finally gave up, then Gundo long chipped it 10 yards past him and pffft!

The most passionless “Derby” I’ve seen in a very long time at a time when we desperately need to start winning 3 pts if we have any pretense of being in the Champions League next season.

Lastly, that team/performance would get battered by Forest at Wembley!

I agree he could have done better....absolutely - but you also cant polish a turd and thats our midfield in a nutshell
That midfield should never have been picked today. There were better options on the bench. Kova is a solid unspectacular player and combining him with Kev and Gundo who basically can’t compete at this level was madness. Bernie tried but his race is nearly run too I think

They are 13th. When has 5th v 13th ever been a contest worthy of playing for a point?

Apart from that?

Lots of possession, but no real threat. I have given up this season, glad the cricket season has started. Come on Somerset!

He has players but has stuck with the old guard. The players he has are not at the standard we would like. We needed some pace and some width. At least he could have had Nico Jack ,Doku and Savinho from the start to give us some pace.
Nico I agree with

The rest I dont

Sav has had plenty of game time this season and shown glimpses - he is young and first season and has done well BUT he aint got the quality yet...his finishing for instance is so poor.
Doku I love but he is a high risk player....Pep knows we lose the ball and they break...look at what happened when he came on
Grealish makes zero difference - he hasnt done so for 18 months...he is poor and adds nothing in terms of attacking play

And I agree but guess what…dad’s army will be trotted out again. Gundo 100% starts and probably plays the 90 mins

Pep has literally just (finally) admitted the players are not able to do what the system demands.

Pure changes incoming.
He’s known for ages the players can no longer play the system…as long as he’s known that the system doesn’t work anymore because teams know how to nullify it.

As everyone else has said, it was absolutely dire. For a team trying to qualify for the CL playing away at a team who are struggling for confidence and form it was a really poor effort. I know Derby Day is different, but we went onto the pitch to conserve energy and try not to lose the game.

I cannot think of a single positive from that game. It was completely boring and all we learned - again - was that if you play old men in midfield they can't run the game. If Nunes is MOTM then you know it's been a dreadful game, and he was MOTM.

The season is heading for a real write off and as much as I love Pep, some very difficult questions need to be asked about the season as a whole, not just today. I honestly think he's just given up and maybe with the injuries he's thrown a wobbly. He just does not seem to be trying anything at all. He does not seem to be able to get anything from these players, has no idea on how to improve anything and has no idea on how to change tactics. We are constantly relying on players who frankly aren't good enough or fast enough to play in this league. I bet Casemiro was made up to see our team sheet.

A good, focussed manager might accept we are going to struggle this season. However, surely they would be planning and building for next year. Playing Bernardo, KdB, Gundogan, Kovacic etc teaches us nothing. Playing intensely slowly every game is still leading to injuries and all we learn is that it's not working. Quite simply, he has to show that he has the desire, hunger and determination for next season otherwise the unthinkable has to happen. If we play like this next season, we will be midtable.

Maybe I am overreacting, but that game today was dreadful, and it summed up the entire season.
