United (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

On the bright side, Rags are entrenched in their position, fighting it out with the likes of Everton for chart topping 13th place.

Congratulations to United's ground staff, getting eleven buses on and off the pitch without damaging the surface is quite a feat, however, it must be noted that they have had plenty of practice under this manager
Fair comment but we didn't exactly try to get past the buses inistead we simply queued up to get on them, it wasn't just them that were awful.

We should’ve buried them yesterday. A combination of Pep’s team selection and players lack of legs and sharpness brought us down to their level. The worst Derby I’ve witnessed live in terms of quality and passion. Waste of a pleasant afternoon.

I never thought I’d see a Pep team treat the ball like a hot potato. We’ve hardly been able to string 10 successive passes together this season.

I used to be this delusional in my younger years, look at anything and everybody else before looking inwards. United are crap, they are a bottom half team playing against the champions. They won't come out and play gung ho will they, they will play like a lot of teams and have a low block because they know we have no answers to it. Look at us and how shockingly bad we are at breaking down teams, we are the problem not them

I could always see a goalless draw happening though, even before we kicked off ..... neither side has been impressive this season, both have struggled to create chances and score goals, both sides overall performances have been littered with mistakes, and neither team has shown much consistency ... if any!

I just never saw this match being a spectacle .... more just a dour battle..... it turned out to be a dour battle generally lacking passion and real quality.

City either want a Champions League place, or they don't, and whilst i saw a resilience from us not to lose the game yesterday, i never once saw enough from us to think that we would actually win it ..... games are fast counting down now, and we can't be taking chances if we want that CL place, one or two other clubs around us are not letting up ..... we need to be 'grinding' out wins from games like yesterday's, no matter how well we play!

Do we think that if we hadn't have won the league last season Pep would've been out by now?
No chance, the only situation where I can see Peps job being under pressure is if he misses out on CL qualification for two seasons in a row.

Just pointing out that City have scored 57 goals this season as against 37 scored by the rags…
Which is the second highest

Some of the rags passing in their own half where they turned the ball over to us was shocking. Trouble is our lot didn’t have the belief to doing anything with it. Better teams would have capitalised on it.

There was no one in the final third to take the hall in front of their defence and do something with it. We used to have prime David Silva of KDB for that, something seriously needs fixing in the creativity department in the summer.

So expecting to get more points than a team in 17th over 22 games is now an unrealistic standard from a fantasy world.
Expecting highest level of football, therein points, season in season out is a fantasy world. We are 5th and you acting like the world is ending

When Haaland plays we hardly ever ping it over the top for him to run on to, arguably his main strength, yesterday we were trying it all the time, admittedly the passes were shit and resulted in nothing, but Erling must of watched that yesterday thinking wtf

I'm sorry that we are so far away in what we see. I see shocking play. No inventiveness from an individual and no coordinated attack with 2 or 3 players who are in sync and at the top of their game.

Even under Pearce we had signs of hope.

This problem up front was there before any injury crisis. It was even there to some degree while we were winning things.

Once we get past the half way line we are devoid of adventure.

I wouldn't mind that so much if it was because we were knitting a new team together. But in that case we'd be playing all of Gonzalez, Khusonov, Reiss, Echeverri, Bobb, McAtee, Savinho, Doku, etc.

Let them fail. Or let them learn.

Instead we are plodding along neither here or there.
Yeah so you are for a shock many times a day in your life. We are not shocking, because if we were, we would be down the table next to United. We would not be in fa cup semi final. We would not win 4-0 over Tottenham. Shocking is Leicester. We are below our league standard for over 2 decades, but it could happen after so massive success.

You would just bench KDB and Gundogan till the end of the season? Those players you mentioned are regularly involved. Doku, Savinho, Khusanov, McAtee have all the chance to show themselves. Echeverri just came and Bobb is injured.

The prime responsibility for the dullest of derbies lies with Man Utd because they are the home side and they played a 5 man defence with Ugarte and Casemiro protecting them. Pep recently played Doku, Savinho and Marmoush and Haaland at home to Brighton and arguably we should have lost. Had we done that at Old Trafford it would have been an exciting game and most probably we'd have lost.

The most serious aspect of this game is that we have Forest in the FA Cup semi-final and we will be without Haaland. Forest are a better version of the Man Utd side we played yesterday, so what are we going to do? We have to get Marmoush and Foden playing in a more offensive side which probably means dropping Gundogan or KDB. Pep is going to play KDB for sentimental reasons. This is a problem. I'd prefer Gonzalez.

Were 5th. It's decent enough after the players have run themselves into the ground to achieve 4 titles in a row.

An achievement no other side has done.

How quickly many are to forget and turn on the players and manager.
Well said mate.
Some absolute tripe being spouted by too many on here who are like spoilt little kids.

I just wish people would look at the bigger picture like you've alluded to.

Arsenal played that Utd set-up recently in the FA Cup and league and couldn't beat them. Liverpool also failed.

Breaking down such a defensive set-up minus Haaland was never going to be easy for us. Sadly this is where we are at the moment because we didn't replace our aging players, and because we've been cursed by injuries.

What team selection would you have made? We could have opened up with wingers but our wingers minus Haaland would have likely made us easier to counterattack. I think our wingers are very effective at beating a man but we don't get many assists from them. There isn't anything obvious we can do. We are a side in transition waiting for Rodri, Haaland to recover. Bobb and Echeverri probably lack the match fitness and experience to play at this moment. Bobb might play vs Palace in a forward like with Marmoush and Savinho. It's asking a lot to gel.
