If we are not winning by half time, bring Bernardo & Grealish

If still not winning, then bring Foden to replace Gundogan

Why mess with what worked already. Id say barring injury, run the same starting 11 back So Ortega for Eddy. But everyone rlse should be the same.

We might have stumbled our way into something here... Lets not overthink our way out of it

I think the team will create more chances with Doku & Savio than Kovacic & Mcatee

I posted in the ticket forum but thought it’d give it a go here - looking for 1 ticket for this - bit of a long shot I know. Thanks, Gio

I'm hoping Bobb is ready to start this weekend.
Anybody fit for the bench is fit to start, imho.

I do not understand why a player who is not considered good for 90 minutes always has to come off the bench?

Start with Bobb, then when he's shot, whip him off. That way you also have an idea of how long he can last, at that point. He'll also be getting the maximum game time and match fitness.

I mean, what did we really learn from the few minutes against Palace, other than (thank goodness) he's still a precocious talent, who's happy to show it?

Nunes, Doku and Savinho away at Everton, Jesus!

The old dears chucking the Toffees into the crowd pre match will frighten 'em, let alone the dogs of war.

You don't start a player who has been out for 8 months!

Integrating back into the match day squad is the first step, then minutes with a view to more game time being possible. Eventually, when he's up to speed on all levels can he start a game.

I don't think some Posters realise what a tough game this will be.
It is not a match or the time to be taking chances with the 11, and individual players fitness.

Can't afford any passengers on Saturday if we hope to win.

Ok, so what more will you know about him after sitting on the bench for 80 minutes, than you do at the start of the match?

If player A can play the first 70 and player B the final 20, they'd be able to do the opposite, in the event that Player B starts but is is knackered after 20.

Starting with B you give yourself the chance of seeing just how far he's progressed fitness-wise.

Bringing him on with 15 left, all you learn is whether he's good for 15.

If he's a passenger at the start, he'd have been a passenger at the end, surely? Why is that any less dangerous?

Player B (the returning injured player presumably) is more likely to break down with injury.

And no manager will start a player expecting to take him off early.
Unplanned substitutions through injury is not what a manager wants to do.

First team football is a world away from training and friendlies.

Getting Bobb up to speed will be with an eye on next season, not this.

We're just not going to agree :-) - I'm wondering why things are done the way they are, but you're just saying what happens, without the reasons behind it.

I'm at least trying to give my reasons for my thinking.

Basic fitness - including likely resilience to 'breaking down' - can be largely determined in training.

I doubt whether they throw them on after 70 with this in mind, either - so what's the difference? Why is somebody going to be more injury-prone at the start of a match than at the end?

Surely it has something to do with tactics. Teams study and practice all week for the opposition so will start doing that with the fittest players for each position in the hope that, barring injuries, it can be tweaked later in the game depending on how it is going.

You wouldn't start with someone who might only manage 20 minutes and then have to revise your whole game strategy.

I think Pep will try and play it safe again.

Ederson; Nunes Khusanov Dias Gvardiol; Nico Kovacic; Bernardo KDB Doku; Marmoush
