He’s an enabler. He connects the team better than anyone else we have. Not flashy, but he’s going to be an important cog moving forward.
before he joined i couldn't believe how bad we was at progressing the ball from defence to midfield that game against arsenal was the worst i've seen us gutted he didn't join at the beginning of january

Yeah, true. Porto needed him to help them qualify in the EL.

The progression thing is a confidence thing too. The first 25 mins today, we did pretty well, but Kovacic and O’Reilly took a couple of extra touches that allowed them to be pressed and dispossessed. That created the counter attacks.

After KDB’s free kick, the intensity was back and we were passing through lines at crazy angles. It’s coming and Nico is a big part of that.

Its baffling pep has his reservations about him. If anyone should know the value he brings its Pep.

The worrying comment from Pep about him not playing against the rags because he wanted players who ‘knew the patterns’ was laughable really.

Hopefully today (and other games) shows Pep that he should be in every starting line-up.

Pep fucked up with that and also fucked up not playing o Reilly more aswell but hoping he has learned his lesson now .

By time Pep leaves in two years Nico will be a monster. Working alongside Rodri, there isn’t better mentors than them two.
Absolutely. Rodri has spoken openly about adapting to the league and Pep and after 2 years well we know the rest. Nico is a great signing short and long term. He’ll be a great player here in my opinion

Like every other midfielder we have, he too plays better when Kova in there with him. Cuz Kova is quick on the ball and quick to offer an option.
I’m hoping he will play better when Rodri is back. So far I’m on the fence with him. We just look a bit drab with that midfield. Kovacic did make a difference along with Doku. Gundogan was much better than him though for me today and more involved.

Got a lot of improving to do. He's currently very slow in everything he does. Not just his pace or lack of, but his passing is too slow, takes too many touches, decision making isn't sharp enough, he opens himself up to being robbed too often. for somebody as big as him, he seems really lightweight too and struggles to withstand contact.

I'm fully aware that Rodri took 18 months to get it, he will get the time he needs to adjust, i dont have any reason to doibt he will get it but i'm not seeing why people are suggesting he was excellent today. We were much better both with and without the ball when kovacic replaced him imo.

I think last week was the perfect blend. Kevin doing his driving forward and early passes/crossing. Kova dribbling and finding the through ball. Gumdo making early runs on the left and passing quickly. With Gonzo at the base with quick passes.

Everyone was doing something slightly different but it all fit.

Today was back to the usual clunky football. Which impacted everyone including Gonzo

He did that again today, just did his job.

He's still learning and adapting but we're a better team with him in it.

I'm already excited to seen him play next to Rodri.

Only things he needs to work on are body positioning (he is wrong side in a lot of duels, so easier to protect the ball against him) and occasionally pass quicker. He makes the team tick and was good in that aspect again today in a dour display
