Seat Counters - 2024/25

The club will have learnt a lot in the last couple of weeks with regard to our support, and maybe they will focus on the core support a bit more as it appears the ones who have filled some gaps at Wembley have already grown bored.
Definitely agree with this.

Kick fans out of their seats to create corporate areas and not even find seats next to each other for ST holders whove been moved who’ve sat next to each other for decades, keep pushing prices up which takes long standing fans over their threshold, then put further barriers in place with sky high prices to stop them being able to afford individual match tickets, price children’s tickets so high that puts a barrier on the future generations of City fans from coming to games, keep reducing the amount of fans who can get away tickets and increase the amount of tourists and rows of fans of other clubs, keep diluting the Etihad with non-City fans and have away fans openly cheering and boasting in Blues’ faces in the home stands which ends up with fighting in the stands which either sees Blues being banned from attending football matches or scares kids from wanting to attend them, don’t display the trophies we’ve won each season in any district in Manchester and don’t even be a presence outside a small radius of the Etihad campus around the Manchester area…

…and the result is that fewer and fewer local City fans are attending games. Either because they can’t afford to or they’re sick of the shit that’s gone on and don’t feel important to the club or part of the club.

People get used to not going. People find other things to do, children find other hobbies and interests because City seems so out of reach to them.

Look at the attendances this season of the lower league and non-league local clubs. In this 2024-25 season, here are some of the attendances of our local teams:

Stockport 10,528
Oldham 8,611
Rochdale 5,880
Altrincham 3,561
Curzon Ashton 2,533
Stalybridge 2,015
Radcliffe 1,636
West Didsbury & Chorlton 1,320
Hyde 1,259
Wythenshawe [used to be Amatuers, now just WFC] 1,204
Ashton 943
Mossley 905
Trafford 704
Atherton 543
Ramsbottom 455
Wythenshawe Town 406
Avro 183
and Bury got 8,719 yesterday.

That reckons up to over 50,000 football fans.

Even if just a few of that 183 Avro crowd were ex-City ST holders who can’t afford City anymore and have found another club to watch, then work your way up though all the teams and the divisions…

Those 'casual' supporters Marvin. Please define what they are?
I call them plaatic half and half wearing twats but that's me. Won't be there if we get found guilty re 115 so yes they are not true city fans. More likeley Haaland fans.
There are plenty of City fans all over the south who can get to a rare game. That might make them plastic in the eyes of some, but I prefer to aim the term "plastic fan" at those who believe you can support a team solely through the medium of television. Half 'n' half wearing twats will always be twats but there are plenty sold at almost all PL games, and games at Wembley.
As for Haaland fans: Supporting a player rather than a team is a bloody stupid concept, but I'd sooner have those weidoes at Wembley than empty seats. - That doesn't apply at home games where seats can be empty due to real fans being priced out.

What is your evidence that fewer local fans are attending City games? The UK national transport infrastructure scarcely exists. It's getting worse. Meanwhile it's public policy is to drive down car travel through cities, so how do out of town blues get to City games in midweek? This is becoming a national problem that extends beyond football.

From living in the local area and having well over two dozen mates stop going to City games, some concentrate on their kids’ Junior teams, others go and watch either Wythenshawe club instead, others go and watch Alty others go and others watch West Didsbury & Chorlton.

Get chatting to people in the pub or at work and they say ‘oh I used to go to City but I go and watch the Ammies instead now’ or ‘oh I used to go to United but I go and watch Salford instead now’ or ‘oh I used to go to City but I can’t afford it for my lad so we’ve got him involved in rugby instead’.

More and more people are saying this kind of thing more and more often.

I know a few who have or have had bans, one was for something and nothing n’all.

Local lower league teams’ attendances have rocketed in recent years. Wythenshawe and West Didsbury & Chorlton used to get anything between a few dozen to just over a few hundred watching them, they now get some attendances over 1,200. In the last Wythenshawe derby five of my mates (all ex-City and United ST holders) went along to watch and none have been to watch City or United this season.

Cherry picking attendances on a good Friday when City or United are not playing is not a true reflection.
I agree with the rest and those are the real reasons for the decline in attendances this season, coupled with the fact that the team has been poor this season by our standards.

The Villa game is the most important league game of the season so I don't think that's the cause. Midweek games have always been an issue for out of town City fans. Try travelling from Manchester to London on public transport after 8pm when there are no trains. This is becoming a bigger issue as time goes by. Games are switched for TV. The train companies restrict travel to profitable time, and the car is becoming more and more unpopular.
Agree public transport is crap

Why would they?
Because it would result in more people having to give up their ST, which seems to be an aim of the club, because they couldn’t afford the one-off upfront payment. I’m not saying the club will do that, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if they did.

I don't see why they have frozen season ticket prices if they want rid of them?

Only Bury’s attendance from that entire list was from Good Friday.

16.30 ko on a Sunday is a weird excuse. Most will be home from Wembley earlier than they are from midweek game at home.
"Most"

What a load of bollocks mate.

And a midweek home game doesn't involve spending a full day out from early in the morning.

It's a long day if you want to enjoy it.

Late and overnight rail travel is virtually a thing of the past in the UK.

Linked to the loss of mail and newspaper trains from rail which would see trains going all over with a mix of passenger coaches and mail vans. Not the only reason but a factor.

It's a backwards step really because it means everyone and everything is now on the roads.

Not being able to get from Manchester to London or return after about 2100 is pathetic.

I take that on board.
Rochdale,Oldham and the Altrincham highest attendances are when they are playing each other and have their own loyal support likewise Stockport.
If I drill down on your other attendances, I'm sure I could find the reason for the higher attendances, ie fc United playing at some of those grounds.
Curzon a cup match against Mansfield
City's reasons for the fall in attendances are for the many reasons you have stated and other factors and not in the majority of cases ,going to watch local non league football rather than City

Wythenshawe got 1200?

Where do they play, near Tesco's in Baguley?

The match day buses is a start.

No good for me but good for many.

My mate swears by it from Wythenshawe.

A lot of truth in that.

The casual fan at PL level has gone.

There are people / families who enjoy football, have the kits watch the games etc but actually attending a match is never a consideration for them.

It is, or they believe it is too hard, expensive or not possible to get tickets so they don't even bother trying.
