The Squad planning thread

Unless Ake is toast as well but he’s homegrown?
Yeah, he's homegrown, and honestly, I have no idea what the angle is here. If we were looking for a centre-back to help meet the quota, Branthwaite would be the obvious choice. But then I remembered how injury-prone he is compared to his cost. Maybe we'll look to fill the English quota by signing players in other positions instead. Maybe the Antonio Silva links are nothing but just rumours!

Viana is ruthless, Sporting were in the same shape as us before him and Amorim. Old players at the end of their time and he gutted that squad in two windows. Completely rebuilt it. Saw a article when we announced him explaining how he rebuilt Sporting

Sounds like this could be fun then! As long as Hugo knows he doesn’t just have to buy potential and gets a couple of wolrdies this summer as well.

This might be pivotal this summer.

“Over the years, Sporting’s transfer strategy under Viana shows some interesting patterns and trends worth digging into. One thing that seems to have stayed consistent throughout, though, is the Portuguese director’s impressive negotiation skills. He has a reputation for being a tough negotiator who consistently goes in and gets what he wants, as is evidenced by the big-money deals he has struck over the years.

In his first full season as the club’s director of football, Viana negotiated the club-record sale of Bruno Fernandes to Manchester United for a fee of around €65m. In fact, he has overseen five of the club’s six most expensive departures, thereby bringing in the money needed to be able to afford to adequately replace such stars. Thus, his ability to negotiate big sales has been the key to his success in Lisbon.”

“The key to his success is his proactivity. Viana is not one to wait around for star players to leave before going on the search for replacements. Instead, he understands the fact that Sporting’s best players are always going to attract interest from top clubs around the big five European leagues – indeed, their business model relies on it – so he is happy to look for and even sign successors beforehand.”

This is definitely Viana’s work and I’m here for it. These players will always be legends but someone had to be ruthless and take them away from Pep. Excited to see what the squad will look like.
My main concern is that we will be losing lots of world class players and more importantly players who are proven winners with experience.

It’s going to be very difficult to replace

I think Kev is leaking to this journalist he normally gets transfers for us during the transfer window but now he’s getting exclusives. Kev and him work together for the KDB cup, also done interviews with him about the cup and Belgian talent.

Surely he can’t be that bitter about a new contract considering his injuries and lack of impact in the last 2 years.

Apparently, we're considering Trubin(GK) and António Silva, their centre-back, who, last I checked, is quite expensive and very good.

We;ve been linked with Silva for a few years now.. we finally pull the trigger? Thought it might be a Left footer personally but could see this.

Yep we have been linked for some time now and I can not see it happen, because of the prize tag!

He doesn’t have any emotional attachment to the players that need moving on. Txiki does. Whether it’s just a coincidence/perfect timing or on purpose, it’s worked out well to have a new DoF for the rebuild IMO.

An English number 2 keeper would be an obvious move.
