Are pundits necessary?

This has long been a major irritant to me, and the more it continues the more pissed off I become with how biased and one-sided they all are. I can't comment on Sly because I don't subscribe but the rest are just as bad: vacuous and half-witted, like they are playing to an audience of two - Karl Pilkington and Deadbrain Beckham.
The dreary, dull monotone of Shearer explaining to everyone something they have all just witnessed themselves: the ball goes out for a goal kick, so Shearer goes to great lengths to tell us 'the ball has gone out for a goal kick.' Really, Al? Really?
We're football fans, we are all well aware of what the game is about, we don't need fucking Michael Owen telling us that whoever scores the most goals wins the game.

If given the choice I keep the crowd noise on so I can just glance up at the TV whenever something is imminent, but listen to the insipid and downright tedious platitudes these simpletons serve up on a regular basis? No chance!

The problem you have is the quality of pundit. The quality is down because there is too much football available meaning they need bums on seats and get anybody in to cover games. That, with shoehorning pundits in for tick box exercises has built up to present day nonsense. If you have multiple matches on multiple channels most days then the quality is going to suffer. The best of the best got the jobs in the past because there wasn't many jobs going around.

Iv played s fair bit of football in my lifetime and can confidently say its like listening to a bunch of amateurs who have learnt nothing during their career in the game.
That curly headed twat is doing my head in at the moment. Boring boring boring until someone scores then he wails like a banshee for social media coverage... that's not commentary that's screaming.

There are one or two who have some insight. I quite like listening to some of the female pundits because they are more interested in the technical game than the drama and creating clicks. And they tend not to be full of the same old bias for the top clubs.

But I really really want to be able to listen to the game without the pundits. I can't find any way of doing that without turning off the crowd too. It seems for some reason they have closed and locked that door. They seem to want to make us listen to them.

Surely some sort of AI could do it, mute them out but keep the crowd, I would pay for that coverage tbh.

One on the commentary is ok what I can't stand is three or the two and the second one never shut the fuck up especially some of the woman ones! Sky virgin could save a fortune if they just sacked them all of and let a fan do it and all they get is to watch the game and the money to get to grounds!

Reckon Ai in the future will be much better commentators you can ask it to be impartial fair it will know all the rules too

Not during commentary, they just state the obvious. It’s weird watching without a commentator, but he doesn’t need a sidekick, especially when it just descends into banter or sly digs at City.

Pundits are ok for halftime or post-game chat, because you can choose to go and make a brew or turn the tv off after if you don’t want to bother listening.

The thing that most surprises me is that these ex-pro players who must surely understand the game far better than me offer absolutely no insight on it that I can’t see for myself.

Pundits are only good for one thing, namely crying bitter tears at city’s success.

Mute until we are winning then enjoy…

Otherwise, don’t bother.

Totally irrelevant if they can’t stay impartial and give genuine insight.

Definitely pointless at half-time. It goes, half ends, straight to ad break, back to studio for 1 minute tops discussing an incident or goal, ad break, another minute talking about something else, ad break, back to presenter for them to plug a programme coming up on one of the other channels, ad break, second half.

When you have average intelligence people on your tellies 200 times a year saying the same things, it gets somewhat repetitive.

The La Liga coverage is much better as they show more insight in game of how teams are attacking using proper graphics that you can see whilst watching the game.

If you had someone like Will Still actually showing how overloads were happening in play, that would add to the experience, rather than the co-commentator just being the hype guy.

Maybe that’d get boring too after a while though.

I miss Amazon having the PL games, I'd turn off the commentary and just have the stadium noise and at HT put something else on for 15 mins.

Having to listen to bellends like Jamie Redknapp really boils my p*ss. He comes across as angry all the time and you should be glad he has agreed to turn up.
