Reform 2025 Limited new name same business

My 89 year old mother needs a new knee, she's decided to dip into her life savings and pay the fee for the operation. She's completely housebound with little quality of life and has decided she can't wait a relative eternity for the NHS to do the job. Would it be possible for just 20k of that 0.5 billion to be given to her to cover the cost!
That's the reality of the illegal immigration gravy train and how it impacts our citizens. These people will have the begging bowl out for the rest of their lives if they are allowed to stay here. Who is more deserving of that money, my mother or those illegals?

Rubbish .... absolute f@ckin rubbish ... Im having mine done in June .... less than 12 weeks waiting time from seeing the consultant.

I have been keeping tabs on ex-GB News presenter and newly elected Reform Councillor Darren Grimes for some time now.

It’s very clear that he is astoundingly ignorant when it comes to pretty much all the issues of the day, sometimes disturbingly so. Not for nothing do his older critics on X frequently refer to him as a 'stupid boy', in homage to Pike from Dad's Army. This epithet is well-deserved.

Several examples:

Asylum Seeking - Grimes shows no awareness of the complexity of this issue and makes it sound as if it is easy to smash the gangs. It isn’t. Low hanging fruit are arrestable but the trafficking bosses are very well-insulated from being apprehended and evade justice even when they are captured. There’s a whole chapter on this in Sally Hayden's meticulously researched, award-winning book on the subject. A young investigative journalist of the highest calibre, Hayden has also spent lots of time in the company of individual asylum seekers without being sexually harassed or finding herself on the receiving end of other expressions of the purported 'alien'/'medieval cultures' from which many refugees originate.

Plus, Hayden highlights the fact that not all are Muslim (as Grimes implies), and those that self-identify as such tend to be fleeing from militias/jihadists/radical Islamists. There is also a tendency on Grimes' part to essentialise/dehumanise them. One can agree that there is a need to 'stop the boats' without doing this. Anyone who reads Hayden will learn that the back stories to many of those seeking asylum are genuinely horrific, as is the journey itself.

Islam - Like other far-right political commentators on X, Grimes misleadingly portrays Islam as a monolithic entity, conflates it with Islamism (a classic error), and makes it seem as if every last Muslim is like an alien from Star Trek’s evil ‘mirror’ universe, one where mass murder, despotism and conquest are the norm. Quite what Zia Yusuf makes of this is anybody's guess.

Economics - It’s Reform‘s plan to raise the tax threshold to 20K. As the poor tend to spend any spare income, growth can result. But historically, across-the-board tax cuts never have, from the time of Reagan onwards. This is because 'Trickle-Down' economics does not happen. There are various reasons for this so I will cite just one: larger companies these days are far more in thrall to their shareholders than previously. So additional profits tend to be passed on to them in the form of dividends and are not re-invested in the long term future of the company. Should this not happen, investors will simply move on to a company that can offer a higher level of reward.

An additional Grimes factor here is that he is also a professed admirer of Truss, another ideologue who advocates 'Trickle-Down'.

'Two-Tier' sentencing - Grimes constantly harps on about this. So here are two in-depth correctives to his assertions:

Plus, as a staunch defender of ‘are culcha’, Grimes clearly needs to study the venerable Victorian philosopher John Stuart Mill, taking note of his famous ‘Harm Principle’ and the similarities between social media posts and placards inciting others to commit violence.

Climate Change - Grimes thinks he knows more than the IPCC, the US National Academy of Sciences (with over 200 Nobel Prize winners), the US Meteorological Society, the US Geophysical Union, the Royal Society of the UK, & the national & regional scientific academies of many other countries. It's not a good look.

Gaza - Reading Grimes' tweets on this issue, one could be forgiven for imagining that this conflict started on October 7th 2023. Never once has he referred to the past Hamas-like atrocities (ones that included rape and the murder of babies) that were either orchestrated or directly perpetrated by the IDF at places like Qibya, Qana, and Sabra & Shatila. He may also be in for a shock when he learns that - Netanyahu aside - Israel has had four PMs who have committed or been implicated in acts of terror, namely, Begin (Irgun), Shamir (Lehi/Stern Gang), Sharon (Qibya, Sabra & Shatila), & Bennett (Qana).

Overall then, if Grimes serves as an example of the calibre of Reform politicians, there is certainly cause for concern about the ascendancy of this far-right party, as well as their supporters.

I think it was Erich Fromm who highlighted the fact that entire societies can descend into collective madness. In the case of many residents of the Annfield Plain ward in County Durham, this certainly seems to be the case.

my Dad needs a new hip. He's already had one done and described it as worse than the surgery he had for bowel removal. So much so the NHS keep badgering him to get it done and he keeps resisting - seems to me that indicates that there is almost an oversupply of provision not a huge waiting period

Waiting lists….what waiting lists lol.

You can always rely on a story from one or two that backs up their given opinion on any given day ;-)

Love the oversupply of provision quip. Tomorrow he will be posting the NHS is on its arse again haha

Why do you find that so hard to believe? And I would imagine you think I’m racist aswell don’t you
The only thing I’m finding hard to believe is the fact that you think I’m going to get in my car and drive to Hexthorpe on a bank holiday weekend to conduct a vox pop on the frequency of Romas shitting in the street.

Going through the illegal immigration statistics - approx. 43000 illegal immigrants (at the time of arrival) came to Uk last year. And cost of public services to a UK national is approx £12k which is approx. £0.5bn a year.

If the people think £0.5bn a year extra in government coffers would solve all their problems, then they need to critically think again.

This issue is portrayed as a public services / financial stress issue but it really is not. It is a political point scoring issue, an emotive issue.
Is that a deliberate mistake to skew any facts...You talk of £12k to a UK national. These people are not UK Nationals.

Even Big Issue (you know the homeless charity) blow your figures away, and this was from 2023/24...

So far this morning I have seen an interview from the newly elected Reform Mayor of Hull and East Yorkshire promise he will not raise anyone's taxes and the newly elected Durham councillor Darren Grimes saying he wants Reform to fix Brexit and tackle immigration. As I have repeatedly said they have no idea what they have just won - its about bus routes, planning applications and public parks not setting taxes nor setting immigration policies. Being a local councillor is graft, its time consuming and will have local people expecting local results. People better be ready to reap what they sow because a failed TV presenter ranting about people who have brown skin will not repair any pot holes any time soon. Expect stories of Reform councillors not attending and when they do de-railing meetings
Rhetorical question I suppose, but did any of the esteemed media ask them "What does any of that have to do with running a local Council?"

"They" don't but if you make it about you and yours, that's how you'll think. And TBF, that's exactly how Uncle Nigel wants you to think. So well done you.

But no, there's no such thing as "illegal" people.

Maybe you should go out, get some fresh air, enjoy the day?
If you've got a spare bedroom ring the Home Office and let them know that you can accommodate a couple.

Great name for a band - The Roma Street Shitters

are you equating asylum seekers with illegals immigrants ?
The article you quoted suggests that costs have risen as a result of slow processing and poor management. Blaming immigrants for governments poor performance as well now.
I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants or any political party. My only gripe is the false narratives created for political reasons.

Farage is nailed on to win the general election. The traditional parties have.. fucked around and are now finding out.
I think you appear to be making the same mistake as those people who voted for remain who were incredulous at the outcome of the referendum, namely operating in an echo chamber to some extent.

There is a strong, solid rump of people who support Reform. I would guess about 15% of the electorate. And then there’s another cohort who would contemplate voting for them if things (in their eyes) continue to get worse and/or they feel the need to protest at the status quo. I’d put that figure about 10%. Which equals 25% on a good day. I think that is their ceiling, give or take, because I’d say the rest of the electorate would never contemplate voting for Reform under any circumstances and under FPTP this will present a huge obstacle to what you stridently predict to be a certain outcome.

The support for Reform is real and sustainable, but there is a limit to the number of people who will lend their support however ‘bad’ things get. I’d say about a third of ‘natural’ Tories are part of the grouping who would never vote Reform; left wing, liberal conservatives, who if the Conservative Party ceased to exist tomorrow would gravitate towards the LibDems because of their liberal sensibilities and the fact that they aren’t negatively affected by immigration overall.

I don’t think the sums add up for an outright majority for Reform for the foreseeable.

Ang the government writes cheques for aid to Ukraine or in supporting Israel or pay grants for various projects in the community some of which never help the community and countless other things. End of the day, it is about choice. So your mums op is not held up because of illegal immigration, it is due to the choices of the government.

example from today - the AS-90 is being replaced by the RCH-155. So the choice is store and maintain obsolete equipment OR give to an ally in need? When they give them to Ukraine their value is counted in the aid package we provide
