The 2025 Rebuild of City Squad

This has just been posted. Haven't watched it myself yet, but they're usually worth a watch because they're pretty good on the tactical side.

 
Please. Bernardo, KDB, McAtee, Gundogan, Grealish, Stones/Ake/Akanji out. It’s not even funny anymore. Can’t tell me our younger players wouldn’t do better or can do the same. Major overhaul needed because Pep will start certain players next season to keep his control mentality in the club.
Imagine Enrique refusing to use younger players and wingers . PSG wouldn’t be where they are right now

Ederson - I wouldn't want him to go but all the talk sounds like he wants to go, so cash in if that's the case.
Ake or Stones - 1 has to be cashed in on, maybe both, they can't stay fit. I would say Ake is less injured and plays left back but I love Johnny as well. Tough call but Pep needs reliability.
Walker - Cash in if we can.
Lewis - Academy lad, would always wish him the best but he can't play right back and he's not good enough in midfield.
McAtee - Academy lad, so wish him all the best.
De Bruyne - Free Transfer, the right time to go, our GOAT.
Kovacic - Cash in if we can. He's our best midfielder at the moment but he isn't good enough to start for a title winning side. Nico can play backup to Rodri, looks like Gundo is staying as well.

On the fence with Nunes.

Goalkeeper - If Ederson goes.
Right Back - A starter.
Left Back - A starter.
Midfielder - Has to be world class, can play as a 10 or box-to-box.
2nd Midfielder - We might need a 10 and a box-to-box. Maybe O'Reilly moves forward if you buy a left back.
Right Winger - Needs to be world class.

Good list of incomings, but just seems like too much to get done in one window. Keeper, full backs, Reijnders and Gibbs White/Simons (if Wirtz is off to Bayern) have to be the immediate moves. As much as I don't rate Doku or Savinho, we have to persist with them until those other holes are filled.

I think it's doable if we can hold onto Ederson for 1 more year.

5 players, MGW looks like it's in progress.

So that leaves 4:
Left Back
Right Back

I think they'll leave left back this summer but I wouldn't. So potentially only 3 players & MGW.

Huge job for Viana and Pep but that's what's needed atm.

With sales we can probably get overall spend down to £100m.

I really can't see Ederson staying another season. Seems like he already had one foot out the door last season and didn't go for some reason. The odd story about Ortega leaving as well is alarming because this would be the worst possible time to replace our first and second choice keepers when we have so much more work to do in the market.

Left back is bigger priority than a winger.
In fact, it's probably the biggest priority of the whole team.
 
Lewis and McAtee need to go, they’ve had enough chances and they’re just not the level we need.

Bernardo needs to go, he offers nothing now. Same with Gundogan.

Kev already going, and unfortunately I think Eddie too.

So we need a keeper, two proper, top class full backs, and at least one high energy midfielder that can score or at least create.

Ideally at least one winger that can score too, none of ours can.
 
Some rebuilding this needs. Quite easily 75% of the squad is not good enough, it’s madness.
 
After today I’m sure the decision to let KDB go was the right one. I do have huge concerns over our utter lack of creativity, Bernardo offers nothing in attack, Foden is so far off his best that I wonder if we’ll see him hit the heights again. We lack any sort of craft in our side at present.

We’ve evolved into a side that moves the ball slowly relying on creators we no longer possess to create chances.
 
These following players simply arent good enough long term

KDB - out the door anyway
Grealish - he is clearly finished - hopefully we can get his wages off the books
Rico Lewis - he just isnt im afraid
James McAtee - doesnt have the killer instinct or drive
Gundo - worrying that we are allowing him to stay
Nunes - obvious

Big questions over Savihno and Bernardo

Ake and Stones - just not reliable enough due to injuries - pointless being here if they cant play for huge chunks of the season and this aint going to change with either of them

Id also slightly question Ruban Dias long term - a good leader but is he very top quality....he is looking very vulnerable this season - though all the above are far more significant concerns


The other concerning thing is that our approach this summer with what we are being linked with seems to be young players who may become good enough....the fulbacks we are being linked with are good examples of this.
On top of this is he need to buy homegrown - rarely a good thing.

If we fail to bring in quality in midfield especially and fullback then we will be in for another fight for top 4 and with the way we are playing we are a long way off.

What's Leroy Sane up to these days? Or Riyad....??

What we had and what we lost. Does my head in.
 
I know a few have mentioned we don't need wingers, to which I'd agree, but we do need our actual wingers to provide more of a goal threat, 5 goals between them all in the prem this season.

Some tough conversations need to be had with a few players. If players like Silva stick around with how much Pep loves them, nobody we sign will get a game.

We could sell Silva and Pep would find some way to get him back in the lineup.

Watching PSG dominate Europe with attacking wingers and wingbacks, with players we had the chance to sign like Neves and Ruiz in midfield, we need to get this window right.
