Going much further back in time, when Kevin Keegan left them for Hamburg, their manager Bob Paisley said in a newspaper article that he should be dropped from the England team (Keegan was the England captain at the time) - mentions of him being unpatriotic abounded.
They've always been weird and unpleasant about their players leaving to better themselves.
I'm not sure that Michael Owen is held in fond regard at the 'Shrine of the Eternal Victims' either - but TBF where is he held in high esteem? Not sure they're totally OK with McPointy.

Two words

John Barnes

That’s all you need to know about respecting your own players

Curious as to how long we have to put up with Neville and Carragher's clickbaity punditry. Just over the this weekend Carragher insinuates Rice will probably want out at Arsenal soon and Neville believes Nuno should quit because his employer was on the pitch.

I know influencers and fan tv is a thing now but letting it creep onto the main broadcaster is becoming silly.

Little Mickey Owen wasn't too impressed with the reception he got when he went back with Newcastle. I really don't know why people were surprised that they booed The Annoying Acronym as they have plenty of form for turning on "their own". Raz, Karius, Barnes, Owen and probably numerous others too.

I can just about tolerate them as pundits because I tune in at kick off and out again as soon as the final whistle goes. At half time I make a cup of tea or do something else

The really intolerable thing is when they (or other representatives of united, liverpool or arsenal) pitch up as co-commentators which is just about every game. That means we have to mute the commentary too (except on Prime).

That was the reason he did leave. Didn't Gerrard have death threats also, against him and his family, when Chelsea looked nailed onto sign him?
He did but that could have also been gangsters as his missus had a thing for pancake batter at the time.

Perhaps the next time journalists, pundits and other football “experts” talk about City’s drop off in form this year, the correct response should surely be to agree with them whilst pointing out that every team in the entire 136 year history of top flight English football that has won 4 titles in a row always has a drop off in form in the 5th season.

Sly Sports should consider changing their name to MUTV plus or at least have their producers seek professional help.

I've been looking forward to a piece coming up on the rags demise. It's titled "It's a DISASTER" with comments from Patrice Evra.

His opening line was "yes, the season has been a disaster" where we see a replay of the rags conceding their second goal to West Ham at the weekend then he goes on to say how he likes Amorim and wants him to succeed and win the europa cup to salvage their season. While he's prattling on in the background the viewers are being treated to footage of rat face scoring a montage of goals and the team hugging and celebrating with each.

I'm thinking to myself (and now typing) hang on a minute, this should have been about the rags disastrous season and instead I'm being gaslit to fuck here.

I Get it that Sly Sports are the rags number one fan club but you would think they could at least frame it in a way that shows that the filth have had a relatively disappointing season. If for no other reason than to demonstrate at least a modicum of professionalism.

I find it fascinating that the headline reads "DISASTER" yet the content show goals, harmony, camaraderie and BBQs.

Wow!
