City’s New Kits

The club get 15% of the sale of each shirt, according to Google's AI search. I have not bothered attempting to fact check it with a more credible source though.
Id be surprised if its any where near 15%

Generally the manufacturer pay the club an agreed amount to the club and then make the money back through sales.
Pumas deal with City is quite a sizeable loss leader. Its more an advertising situation than a profit maker.

Its the same with most clubs. Like when Ronaldo re- signed for them lot. “Already got the money back through shirt sales”.
Nope

Agree, personally i believe clubs don't get a penny from shirt sales.

That's what people say to justify buying fakes. The club obviously make money out of shirts sold for their own club.

Whether it's money made per shirt after the sale, or money made upfront as part of the agreed deal fee with Puma and Etihad, fans buying fakes means the club loses money.

In the latter scenario, it means that next time the deal is up for renewal, or a new sponsor or manufacturer is sought, they will offer less as less shirts were sold last time due to people buying fakes.

Yea that's why I did specify it was the AI search answer, which most of the time is unreliable nonsense. But it is now the default and the first thing that comes up. A fucking shitshiw for misinformation just released into the world.

No idea what the actual percentage is, but there will without a shadow of a doubt be one. There would be no point otherwise, no reason for a club shop, a sales website, no incentive for the club to hire staff or for them to sell items.

In another article while skimming through this, It said that Utd claim 20% of individual shirt sales in their books, apparently, which they claim as 40m a year on top of their general deal. If there is any truth to that.

Ive not bought a shirt for myself for donkeys years. And i buy my kids shirts from a snide source.
£23 for a fully numbered, written up full kit.
I know i can get cheaper but i find the guy i buy off easy to work with and DHgate a mine field!!

I dont like being ripped off and i feel thats what charging over a £100 for the same product to be.

Or Puma may think with the extra 30% snide shirts walking about on show they're getting extra advertising so will up the deal.

Honestly you would be very surprised.
The point to staffing a shop etc is to get punters in the doors buying other merchandising.
And the incentive to the club is the whopping deal they get off puma and the more they sell the better deal the next time its up for negotiation.

Smaller clubs will get a %. The bigger ones wont as they get the bigger deal up front.

My pal worked in that very roll and was very interesting and somewhat surprising learning the mechanics of it all

To answer another unasked question; the players will have it in their contracts that they have to do x amount of publicity work for the club/puma as part of their ‘job’ of playing for City

Correct.
The deal puma have is a loss leader. Its advertising. And if people are walking around in snide shirts with PUMA written on the front, then its still brand awareness.

The club, any big club, getting a % of shirt sales ended years ago

The deals are made based on projections and anticipation through exposure, growing fanase numbers and success on the pitch. Rather than exclusively on previous sale numbers. Lets face it, we didn't get 70m a year as a deal based on having sold that for Nike. We got it because Puma could see where the club was heading under Pep. Big swings in sales are no doubt taken into account, but it will be a small part of it all. In the exact same way the Raddison Blu didn't sign up to operate the new hotel based on how many rooms the club previously sold, but on the anticipated potential.

The big draw for puma is being associated with the club, the exposure, the brand being seen in the CL final etc. Rather than just the sales themselves. You can't claim on the one hand peiple buying fakes benefits puma through free advertising (I agree bte) and then on the other hand that shirt sales are what their deals hinge on.

I can't find it to prove otherwise, and won't put time into it. But I flat out refuse to believe the club get no percentage of shirt sales. It is such an illogical claim, that no offense to you, I just don't buy. I know you are involved and I trust most of what you say, but that one I just don't see.

Only what i was told blue, and i have no reason to disbelieve him.a cery interesting and eye opening convo at the time

I recall that the club get a % on other puma gear, training wear and the like, which answers why the club staff a shop etc

I wasnt insinuating the club solely work on previous sales, itll help obviously, but yes, its all about exposure and being linked with a winning brand (city).

It goes back to the league and other clubs questioning the initial etihad deals. It seemed a lot at the time but in hind site it was a great deal for etihad given the exposure its had over the years

That must have been after the rags paid for pogba's fee and wages with their shirt sales they sold because of him :)

Nothing to do with fake shirts mate its dealing with facts, ie clubs make fuck all from shirt sales.

Absolutely. All fair pal, not doubting anyones intentions here. Just sticking with my own logic based on what I know and think. Open to be convinced otherwise, but so far not seen anything near enough to make me question it.

Don't disagree that any percentage might not be huge. But just can't comprehend it being none at all.

Anyway, the kit has grown on me. Better than this season's, and the last lne for that matter too, and most recent home kits, with the exception of the treble one.
