Akanji did nothing particularly wrong, but he reminded me so much of everything that was wrong with our setup. Like Walker in the last couple of years, he's always available for the pass because the opposition know he won't do anything with it. And because our players are all safety first, they always use him.
You saw everything that is wrong with us in Echeverri's little cameo as well. Full of energy, put himself in great positions, always available for the ball, but because he was a slightly harder pass, no-one was willing to take the risk. Last season, Foden was taking up similar positions and the ball was fired into him to turn and run at the opposition. I can see him 6 months from now no longer making those runs, just like Haaland seems to do less and less. When he first came, he was endlessly making clever runs and keeping defenders on their toes. Now, you can just see he never expects the pass to be made and he's much easier to neutralise.
