Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

Akanji did nothing particularly wrong, but he reminded me so much of everything that was wrong with our setup. Like Walker in the last couple of years, he's always available for the pass because the opposition know he won't do anything with it. And because our players are all safety first, they always use him.

You saw everything that is wrong with us in Echeverri's little cameo as well. Full of energy, put himself in great positions, always available for the ball, but because he was a slightly harder pass, no-one was willing to take the risk. Last season, Foden was taking up similar positions and the ball was fired into him to turn and run at the opposition. I can see him 6 months from now no longer making those runs, just like Haaland seems to do less and less. When he first came, he was endlessly making clever runs and keeping defenders on their toes. Now, you can just see he never expects the pass to be made and he's much easier to neutralise.
Yep. We were far more effective when walker would make the outside runs even just as a decoy as it brought a player away and created space inside but pep moved heavily towards inverting full backs and meant walker was more on the ball and it didn't really benefit us as much. Nunes has shown in glimpses at how effective an overlapping fullback can be and its what we did a lot prior to pep as well

Couldn't fault the effort our players put in.
Clearly we're missing an injection of pace and inspiration when it counts.
Defensively we look weak.
Got done on the break, missed a pen and var bummed us again.
It's been the same old story all season.
Changes required.but slagging off club stalwarts after one poor season is a joke.
Congratulations Palace.

Usual predictable shit and outcome.
Honestly, think a complete change of manager and coaching staff is needed as Pep does not know how to fix this shit.
The club gave him 150 million in January and what a waste that has been, on top of other dreadful recent windows.

In a nutshell:
We have keepers who rarely make saves other team keepers make and one wants out.
Woeful pathetic defending, not helped by not playing a LB at LB and RB at RB. Defending is panicky every time a team runs at us.
Midfield and wingers are one of the worse sets in the PL.
And 1 bullied striker who has lost his bottle.

48 shots at goal in our last 2 games and no goals sums us up. A squad full of players who just cannot score.
28 Corners also and nothing from them.

The fact Pep seems ok with who ever is stealing a living on the coaching and set piece staff sums up how we are happy and too comfortable With how things have regressed.

The game is now youth, pace, energy and forward attacking play, we are looking obsolete with our soccer aid level of pace and fitness sideway passing

When a team sits deep like Palace did today and Southampton last Saturday there should be no place for Haaland in the side until we go at least a goal up.

Fair play to Palace, their game plan was perfect and they got a huge slice of luck.

Injuries and KDB losing his legs have put an almighty plaster over Pep’s performances this season. We’re easily one of the worst coached teams this season. Utterly devoid of ideas going forward and offer nothing but shitty sideways passing. We make the same mistakes time and time again, the Palace goal today was the exact same move as a goal they scored at the Etihad.

For the record, I don’t want him sacked. He more than deserves another season with us. But he needs to start facing the criticism that he’s been spared from so far.
