I think some of the criticism is way over the top.

There is no doubt Foden has been very poor this season by his own previously high standards, especially last season but he hasn't played a lot of football this season and the only way he is going to come through this is by playing.

Something didn't seem right in the Euros last season but he didn't help himself by demanding the ball in positions that he couldn't be passed to and then throwing his hands in the air......he's continued this trait this season with City.

I don't think his form has been helped by Pep continually playing him in different positions to accommodate De Bruyne, Gundogan etc ........However I do get frustrated with him pulling out of challenges, but that's up to Pep to sort out.

I think his best position is just behind the Striker, he is a good finisher and there is no doubt he has an eye for goal but he hasn't got the personality to drop deeper and influence games and he doesn't really create chances for other players.....maybe that will change when De Bruyne leaves.

I have read about the health issues rumours and if true I hope he receives the right treatment.

He has also received unwanted publicity with regards to the incidents abroad with England, clubbing and turning then up the worst for wear at training, plus his mum has also courted headlines with incidents at the boxing plus parties and disturbing the neighbours etc etc.

Some of it might not be true, but I am not convinced he sometimes surrounds himself by correct people to give him the correct guidance.

What is Foden lacking to make us desperate to sign Wirtz? Wasn't he supposed to replace KdB?

Maybe Foden lacks the vision to be a proper No 10. Even when he was at his best last season he didn't contribute many assists. Apparently, he's more of a forward than a midfielder. Still, Pep may try him next to Wirtz should we sign the latter.
Just my opinion but - Phil turns 25 in at the end of the month, has been in the first team for 7-8 years, and hasn't shown that he can consistently be the primary creator in midfield.

That's not meant as a criticism, and even though he's had a poor season, he's still a fantastic player and part of our core.

But in my opinion his best position (I know this is sacrilege on here) is out wide, and drifting in centrally as a secondary playmaker/goalscorer. Like an old school inside forward. He's versatile and can play pretty much anywhere, I just don't think he's suited to be the #10 full time. Very different player to KDB. Again, just my opinion.

Creativity. Foden just isn’t creative enough. He turned into a catch and turn shooter. Also too dependent on his left foot. Won’t pass the ball in certain lanes just so he can pass the ball with is left.

I think he's always been a bit of an awkward match with Pep, and I think Foden has done all the compromising. His game is a bit of a shadow of what it was, The explosiveness beaten out of him a little. It doesn't excuse his low standards this season but Weirdly I think he will benefit when pep leaves, even if city won't as a whole.

Posted similar in the pre match thread but his body language on that video of them getting off the coach is bizarre. Looks to be in pain.

Phil now plays exactly the way Grealish used to get slated for. Get the ball, cut inside and give it to the nearest man.

Imagine a player getting a debut in the position that you just won POTY in, just for you to hold the touch line.

Loved that time he got the ball on the touchline and passed it back to Akanji. And the other time he got the ball on the touchline and passed it back to Akanji.

Can we ever see him being back to the player he was last season? Genuinely think he’s done, mentality there’s something gone on which he can’t control

Right hand side was killed off as soon as he came on. Why? He’s not a winger who can hold width! Something EVERYONE knows except the genius that is Pep Guardiola apparently. To add insult to injury Echeverri was picked to play in the middle over him.

Tragic. Looked utterly beaten as soon as he came on - knew he had nothing to offer.
Fuck knows what the deal is, but have to cross everything it gets sorted over the summer.
