Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

People moaning about the referee on here are simply kidding themselves.

We were fucking shite, lacked any type of game plan or tactics, and the players - other than the young kid who came on - looked like they couldn’t give a shit.

It’s happened all season, and it needs to be sorted out. The people being paid millions of pounds to make decisions need to make a decision and start afresh.

It’s been a great run, but it’s over now and we need to start again with a new team and a new manager. That’s the reality of the situation.
Rules of the game not administered . Affected the game 100%.
Haaland giving up the pen is shocking

Just seen - 58 touches in the palace box. Suspect this is a record along with Akanji stats for 10 yard square passes allowing every Palace defender to get back into shape. Two wins now or a win and a draw and write the season off. Probably win the Club World Cup now!

We are shite every game. So fucking predictable. Take an age to get the ball from the back and then after 30 seconds pissing around we pass it to Doku who has two men on him every time and more often than not runs into trouble.

As for Savinho, Marmoush and Haaland’s wank performances, I have no words.

Two years in a row we’ve shat the bed in an FA Cup Final. Lots of excuses were made last year having won our 4th PL, but there’s no excuses this year.

Look forward to the gymnastics/narrative spin regarding the GK red card that wasn’t. That was a disgrace of a non-decision and the Reg and VAR should be punished for the balls up.

That aside, we had more than enough opportunities, but lacked a cutting edge. Echeverri showed more in his short cameo than any of the other forward players. He at least carries the ball with some threat. I think the overhaul needed is significant. They also need to shake up the coaching staff.

The red card decision is not the reason we lost that. Infuriating and wrong, yes, but it doesn’t change the fact that we were devoid of ideas and absolutely toothless in and around the penalty area.

We can’t play killer passes any more as Kevin and Bernardo are absolutely done. Legends of the club and we’ll be for ever grateful but we are long past the point where we should have said “thanks for the memories, goodbye.”

Wingers offering no end product. They had 2 players on Doku all afternoon and he had no overlap, only option being to pass backwards and more central, which was exactly what they wanted. Savinho just isn’t cutting it I’m afraid - 1 good game and 10 average or shit ones isn’t good enough.

Then the elephant in the room. Haaland. Bangs them in when he has the service as he did with KdB a few seasons ago, but in a team of seriously deteriorating players and opposition who have worked us out, it’s like playing with 10 men. We’re boring to watch and now look years of winning anything again.

We have set ourselves such insanely high standards that the drop off hurts more than it should, but that’s where we are. I’ll always be grateful for what we’ve had the last 12 or 13 years, but I’ve not felt so despondent since the days of Mark Hughes. It’s painful to watch at times.

Congratulations to Palace. A proper side with good players and a good manager, they deserve their day today. I have no issue with players going down with head injuries and slowing the game down - I’d be annoyed if we didn’t do that so I can’t get exercised about it. It was, guttingly, a reasonable result on the basis of the game as a whole.

Now off to get pissed and watch Eurovision.

We should have put the chances away that we created in the first half, We were the masters of our own downfall today.

I'm seriously pissed off that Haaland handed over that penalty it's a fucking farce that he didn't step up to take it, We bought him and gave him mega money to put the ball in the back of the net, Yet he's handing over penalties in a Cup Final, Shocking.

Still scratching my head as the why Pep continued to use Akanji as the player to be on the ball in the wide right area for the entire game, A position we have always seen De Bruyne in for years to deliver dangerous balls in the box. It was a complete waste having Akanji in that area as he was never going to cause Palace problems, I'm sure they were chuffed we continued in that manner.

Well obviously Walker (of the past) and Akanji are much better at actually defending.
Ye but akanji is not making selfless runs forward. We need to space the game out. Even prime tika taka barca did it with jordi alba and dani Alves although dani Alves was pretty adept at passing too.

I think we just have to get this season in the books and move forward into next year hoping for a fresh start with a bit of a refreshed line up.

We seem to be in a mode this season where every penalty is missed, every pass is over hit, every shot goes into row Z, every opponent's shot arrows into the top corner, every ref decision is a joke. Everything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

It's frustrating, but we can't win multiple trophies every single year forever more, sometimes we're going to need to reset expectations and put our best foot forward.

We weren’t great but it’s a red and they play with 10 for 70 mins. Obvious red card and had a big impact on the game

Henderson rag ****
Thought he was alright there. He said he didn’t know what the interview said but he clearly did. Just being diplomatic. It isn’t his fault the VAR fucked us over. He’s there to win.
