Crystal Palace (N) | FA Cup Final | Post Match Thread

It was a crap penalty and a routine save. Was no where near the corner.
Tbh I think it was an ok penalty. Nothing special but definitely not crap either. I’ve seen plenty worse. The problem is penalties generally get separated into two buckets, ‘crap’ or ‘class’ depending purely on whether it happened to go in. If the keeper dived the other way, Marmoush’s penalty would have been described as “emphatic” - the exact same penalty kick. I don’t blame Marmoush in the slightest. He’d scored his last 7 pens and Haaland had missed 3 of his last 7.

Just made it home from the pub. I live very near Palace. Their fans are understandably giddy. I’m the only blue they have met all day (or ever). Every single one of them mentioned the Henderson handball.. and said they got away with one. Weirdly they all thought we battered them (I guess that’s what stress does) but fuck me it’s nice to see a pub full of supporters celebrating like that. Honestly the place was electric. They’ll probably not win anything for another 50 years. Let them enjoy it. VAR is VAR a joke. Reminded me of 2011 for us.. they were literally crying in the pub.
We did batter them? They’re right

Mate I’m sorry that’s not a reason for him to not take that pen
I’ll guarantee that it was always going to be Marmoush. Pep went ballistic last time that happened (Gundo v Leeds in treble season)

Edit: seems I’m wrong

Honestly sad seeing de bruyne play so shit, not sure how he stayed on for the whole match
Thing is, KDB made a lot of mistakes (which I think is why he is being let go) but he also created some of our best opportunities. How is it shit to put O'Reilly clean through on goal? It's not Kevin's fault that the lad ballsed up the chance to shoot with only the goalkeeper to beat. And he also set up Echeverri with a reasonable chance, plus Haaland for the first shot on target of the match, which needed saving. I also think that the KDB of 2 or 3 years ago would have at least got his late shot in the second half on target but then he was in position to attempt it. So it was a very mixed performance with some outstanding passages and some that made me cringe.

He's absolutely correct this is either corruption or a lack of knowledge of the rules or both. It doesn't matter if somebody was covering, the ball was going wide, nothing. If a goalkeeper deliberately handles the ball outside the penalty area it's a red card. He did and he should have been off. End of fucking story. Not in Attwells world though. Instead he stayed on to produce a man of the match performance. If this was against Liverpool it would be discussed in parliament. It has to be corruption and bias against our club there's no other reason why the laws weren't applied correctly.

On this seasons performances atleast 5 of that Palace side would make our starting eleven and it showed yesterday at Wembley.
Pep's not blameless but with Rodri,Kovacic and Stones out injured and Gundo nowhere near his best what was Pep's options in defensive midfield ??
Can't score a penalty or from open play then you don't win a trophy.
Haaland should of been fighting to take that penalty dispite being shite at them.
I would love to ask pep how savio stayed on that pitch for 75 min.
On this seasons form serious question how many Palace players would get in our starting eleven??????.
I would love to know the reasons why Phil's had the season he's having.
Credit to Palace they deserve to lift the cup and Enjoy a European adventure next season. CTID

Peps thinking today was that of panic it seemed like , he would never in a final even if we were chasing a goal, give a young kid in Echeverri his debut that substitution was like Pep admitting he’d didn’t know what to do so let’s throw a kid on, who’s never played for us before. As he needed a solution
No there was a perfectly logical reason for Echeverri coming on, which Pep has explained ie. he's really good at creating something with very little space available, which was what was required against Palace's massed defence. Didn't work but it made sense. Echeverri did find space for the chance De Bruyne laid on for him but his shot was an easy save. I was reminded of a comparable chance from another match but with our player bearing down on goal from the left rather than the right and at a more acute angle. That match was the crazy 5-3 win over Monaco in 2017 and the player was David Silva, who being the genius that he was slammed his shot so fiercely and accurately into the top corner that the opposition goalkeeper could not react in time to save it.

I mean, he’d be getting shit if he dropped Haaland, but some of his lineups this year have been maddening to say the least.

Still not over shoehorning an out of form Sterling into the CL final and not playing a defensive midfielder.
It might perhaps help if you think about Pep's selection for that CL final as a misguided attempt to repeat the brilliant winning performance with a very, very similar setup against Frank Lampard's Chelsea in January, plus that although Sterling had a generally poor season he was, in the other Cup final he played in that year ie. League Cup v Spurs, our outstanding player.

He's also missed quite a few penalties.
We're a long way from the brilliance from twelve yards of Anelka, Elano, Mario and Yaya.
Yes, the alternative explanation for Haaland's decision is that he knows Marmoush was Eintracht's penalty taker and had scored his last 7 before arriving at City, whereas Erling has scored only 4 out of 7 this season, so he thought Marmoush had a better chance of scoring.
Henderson was on the BBC saying he knew exactly how the penalty would be taken and wasn't guessing, which suggests that Marmoush needs to change his penalty routine eg. if you are going to choose one side of the goal consistently lift the shot up beyond the goalie's reach like Kane does (and don't think about that penalty against France!)

He's a flat track bully who's been in most defender's pockets this season. Slow, cumbersome, and overpaid.
So slow that he outsprinted his defender and reached a long ball so quickly he panicked Henderson into handling the ball outside his area. And I hadn't realised that scoring against Real Madrid made you a flat track bully.
