Pep Guardiola - 2024/25

When Mahrez and Sterling were here they got absolute pelters. FFS Mahrez and Raz's finishing were regular posts. - agreed but the quality was there for all to see
Rodri is still here. Of course, he began as Plodri and not fit to lace Fernandinho's boots - rodri wasnt at his level in his first season but he was still good
David Silva and KDB became great players while they were here. In fact, people spoke of Silva being too lightweight and KDB being a Chelsea reject until they became absolute PL legends. - only the media spoke of David Silva being too light weight - anyone who knows anything about football could see how good he was. With KDB it was all born out of fear and jealousy as he had been at Chelsea and they let him go - again fueled by no nowts in the media
Lewis is 20 with years of development ahead of him. When Kyle was 20 he had just finished a loan to Northampton Town and made 2 appearances in the league for Sheffield United. - Rico has been playing under the best maanger in the world and still no one knows his best position is - he has been ousted by Nunes at fullback and cant defend. He has some attributes to play in midfield but he ultimately isnt a world class midfielder - not even close
Dias is a FWA Footballer of the Year, Manchester City Player of the Year, Premier League Player of the Season and the UEFA Champions League Defender of the Season in 2021. - his form the last two seasons has been poor...good player but is he the level of those ive mentioned - no he isnt

These unfathomable readings make no sense and completely obscure reality. It reads that every player we signed was the finished article when they arrived and every player we are about to sign will not improve. It is, frankly, utterly false. - No im aware that some arent the finished article - but every player has their ceiling and some are not going to get better...You cant compare David Silva to Rico Lewis for gods sake in anyway shape or form - he aint even playing the same game! The media agenda was always against Raz and that fueled a small minority idiot fans ...Mahrez took time to adapt and he wasnt my favourite player as I thought he went missing in tough games but his quality was always there -no one had a better first touch...that is natural ability that some just dont have...Doku has reached his ceiling - a very good player who I love but ultimately aint world class and never is going to be. Kovacic has had a good season but is he ever going to be the level of Yaya, David Silva or even prime Bernardo Silva -no he aint. Sav is good technically and does need time but the worst part of his game is in front of goal - he is actually worse than sterling -that needs to improve very quickly. Dias who I think is good and is a born leader but he is never going to be a Kompany or a Stones...his passing isnt good enough and he lacks pace.

There's no question mark for the decision makers at the club. He has never walked out on a contract and has a two year one ahead of him, which he requested and committed to. There's a reasonable explanation for why he hasn't used the new players as much as some would like (me included). Some people are so reactionary or so desperate to be edgy on the internet that they try really hard to be as myopic and narrow as possible in their thinking about Pep/City. We're going to be absolutely fine. A year from now this thread will be locked and the people who think Pep is finished/over the hill etc will be quiet.

Criticising his tactics isn't the same as saying that Pep is finished, there is nothing more myopic than someone following the herd without as much as a natural thought wondering what we are doing.

There again if you're a thumbs out Stepford wife grinning placeholder I can see why you can't get the criticism :)

I suppose. I don’t think Slot was on most people’s minds when Klopp decided to pack it in

True. Just like top players suddenly spring out of nowhere. And then other dead certs turn out to be dead parrots. One thing for sure is plenty of research will be going on behind the scenes for when the day comes. Hopefully we’ll still see Pep go out on a high before then.

For some reason, I cannot quote you, @simon23. I suggest you look back on the performance threads for those players and you will see people exactly like you saying exactly the things that I said were said about those players. Nobody has ever compared peak David Silva with a 20-year-old anyone, never mind Rico Lewis - that is a false position to take. What you are doing, as seems to be the way, is comparing players at their absolute peak with players who have nowhere near reached it, just as those people compared peak Fern with Rodri. who had just joined a new club in his early twenties, with a new culture, new manager, and teammates, before he had even had the chance to immerse himself. It is a nonsense. At the end of their careers, we will be in a position to fully compare the likes of Lewis, Khusanov, Reis, Echeverri, Bobb, Doku, Savinho, and others, with the greats who have gone before them. Comparing young players with peak-level world-class talents who are no longer with us is folly, especially when it often ignores the reality of how those players were judged when they were here.

Someone on here said in November that pep had lost the dressing room and they were berated but now how many on here think that? . I do feel that pep is done and better all round for him to walk off into the sunset being the greatest .
I don't think he jas lost the dressing room. Just don't think is ideas are working. Nor are his decisions generally helpful of late.

The football is dire. He's the greatest manager we've ever had but it's reached the stage where there's literally no enjoyment watching us anymore. We pass the ball for the sake of it but without purpose. I can't remember the last time I watched us and was genuinely excited by it. It's properly turgid watching the speed at which we play.
Watch the prior Palace game again if you get a chance. The 5-2 game. Best football we've played in 2 seasons.

From start to finish.

In Pep Guardiola I still trust. This man continued what Mancini and Mr Pellegrini started and took us to heights I could never have imagined through the years I have supported this team.
He has a heck of a lot of good will left in my coffers.

Onwards and back upwards we go with Pep.

He might need to ditch part of his favoured blueprint to do so though. There’s a lot of very good managers in this league now, with organised defenders and quick counterattacking forwards, and our backwards and sideways routine looked almost as busted a flush yesterday as it did at Southampton last week. Palace were quite happy for us to eschew crosses in favour of recycling the ball to Akanji and Dias.

We need a huge overhaul in the summer. A keeper, two bullocking full backs, a back up for Rodri (assuming Pep’s reservations over Gonzalez continue), an attacking central midfielder who can play right up on the edge of the opposition penalty area, and a winger down the right with a decent scoring record and who doesn’t collapse like a fanny every time he’s touched.

Pep’s rightly got a huge amount of credit in the bank, but he’s been as culpable as everyone else this season. Need him back to his very best for the next campaign

The league is as strong as it’s ever been for sure. But Guardiola switches systems every season and is generally always one step ahead of the rest of the league. This season has been a perfect storm of many things and Pep has had moments of struggle due to the paucity of options at his disposal. But it’s not about having “credit in the bank”. It’s about who would be a better manager than him for the rebuild. The answer is nobody.

I think he didnt stick around at Barca or Bayern to avoid this kind of demise we see this season which probably was gonna happen there as well given his specific style burning on 1000 Celsius. add in the brutal shit recruitment decisions, going from prime Sterling and Mahrez to young and untested Doku, Savinho, go from a prime Rodri, Gundo KDb midfield to whatever slow, weak midfield we have in midfield this season.

complete loss of form for majority of players, old and past it players forced into the side, players that wanted to leave like Ederson and Walker kept despite their head is elsewhere. refuse to strengthen properly in the summer. only to spend big on a panic January window.

Txiki cannot be exempted from all this, he is the DoF, his role is to manage squad building, transfers, scouting etc.

The latter two are 22 and 20, and recognised as two of the most talented young wingers in the world game. Nunes is a decent squad player. I see one mistake, and there is not a club in the world that doesn't make them.
You got to be joking, they are all mistakes bar Savinho who shouldn’t be near a City first 11.

As if some bellend on Bluemoon has more tactical insight than Pep. Playing hindsight football manager is easy.
