Referees’ Performances | 2024/2025

Was it actually shown on the screen at Wembley ? I wasn't there so don't know. I'd be astounded if it was shown on the Wembley screens. If memory serves were shown the offside goal reasoning for chalking off Palace's goal in the second half. Unfortunately, all these incidents took place at the Palace end of the ground and we did not have a clear view of them in the stadium. Hell, we were all nonplussed for the red card review
Unfortunately not! Neither the red card 'review' or the penalty awarded to us were shown on the screen in the ground so we were left clueless. We weren't even aware that there was initially an issue with Henderson swiping the ball away with his hand and what was being deliberated. For all we knew the ball was down at our end of the ground and there was an issue caused by one of our players who was then under scrutiny!

Stupid question. Is it a straight red if the goalkeeper handles the ball outside his area? I remember Claudio Bravo getting sent off at Barcelona for catching the ball outside his area. Don’t think it was going in or a DOGSO but I could be wrong - it was a few years ago and I’m a bit of an FOC these days!

He was the assistant at the swamp but he did put his flag up. Darren Cann, who never played for Palace, save for a couple of youth team games, really isn’t the problem here.
Cann was assistant VAR so he most definitely is part of the problem. That is unless assistant VAR just makes the coffee and passes the choccy biscuits round.

How many teams get UEFA place every year ? any way Brentford,Brighton,Fulham or Bournemouth could all benefit from City winning the FA cup . So this mistake was more then just let just the underdog win .

Corruption in plain sight. I've been saying it for years, became very apparent for me at that first Dippers CL game at Klanfield, then so many times after that in the PL.
Absolutely and the return leg at our ground when we had a 1st half goal disallowed for off side, when a dipper player played it back. Our player was in an offside position but a dipper played it back. The none offsides at the dippers hole were fucking rediculous.

No.

You can look at it two ways. One is it was a corrupt attempt to fuck us over and the other is they shat themselves at the thought of a goalkeeper being sent off early in an FA Cup final.
It’s the second option, with Palace being the underdog they bottled it with some mealy mouthed excuse about the ball direction or some bollocks

If that was at the other end , Ortega is sent off without a moments hesitation

You will not hear the VAR/AVAR/REF audio til
the next episode of Refs Miked Up, [The All About Me Howard Webb Show]. It'll give them time to mute/redact/edit in new voice over etc.

Webb even if he eventually concedes that he would have expected VAR to send Attwell to monitor for possible red card offence for a DOGSO. He will, I presume, come up with some
made up nonsense on how he can see they came to their decision and it was just an interpretation issue and we will learn to do better. when we all know what it was.

Perhaps Owen could get Webb to explain why
they thought it sensible for Darren McCann to
be AVAR for FACup Final where Crystal Palace
were one of teams involved when everyone knows McCann was a Palace youth player. At very least it would have shielded him from any corruption rumour should a major mistake be made by VAR favouring Palace in the match.
The fact there were no other PL games that day
means Webb could have selected any other official to be AVAR but it had to be McCann...

When the team on Refwatch are all agreed that VAR got it badly wrong and critically have no
idea how they could have come to the wrong decision, you know the VAR team have had an agenda to operate within. At best, it's find any excuse not to send any player off in first half.
At worst its find any excuse not to send off a Palace player, unless Palace winning and less than 5 mins left to play.

I blame Attwell for thrle debacle at the swamp however Cann has ties to Palace and was part of the decision making process.
Personally I think Cann is a big part of the problem.

Neither Atwell or Cann were predominately to blame (the former I don’t think was to blame at all).

Jarred Gillet is the main one to blame who made the wrong decision.

It’s corruption, we just don’t know the motives but they deliberately communicated a fake excuse for not doing their job as the LOTG dictate.

Cann is obviously a Palace fan because he requested a Palace match for his last game. That was against us. It that was his last match, why was he allowed to be assistant VAR for the Cup Final? Bent bastard.

I hate Pep dont mention it or make a scene of this awful decision. if anything in a sarcastic way he should say VAR thought the keeper didnt touch it with his hand. so that way PGMOL need to address that and dig a deeper hole for themselves by saying it wasnt the case it wasnt a handball outside the box than what was it because not being a goalscoring chance is a much bigger stupidity...

Thanks. Presume Bravo walked for a DOGSO then?

two options - either for DOGSO (was this when he put his arms up to avoid being lobbed?), or the rules were different. Probably the former, though.

Basically, handball is handball nowadays. It doesn't matter which player it is if outside the area.
It only escalates if it turns into e.g. DOGSO.

There are no stupid questions. Handball by the keeper outside the box is not an automatic red card. The keeper has to be stopping a goalscoring situation for it to be red.
I did a game at Barrow and the away team cleared their lines. The Barrow keeper was about 5 yards outside his box and, basically, lost his bearings and just caught the ball. Yellow card and free kick as there wasn't another single player in that half of the pitch. Also ball not travelling goalwards.
Assessor told me I should have given a red. When I got his report I appealed to the FA and they agreed with me and the assessor was sent for re training.
