I didn't say there weren't any better, I said not many that are lightyears ahead of him, and more importantly, available.
Dumfries and Hakimi are the only fullbacks that I'm aware of that are top class, and ironically, are both plating in the champions league final next week.
Aside from those, everyone else is the next level down, and I'd have Nunes the level even below that.
However, there's no point spending 50-60M on someone else who is untried; if much sooner see us bring in a top class left back, of which I reckon there are far more options.
I was trying to think about it, and those 2 were the first ones I thought of as well.
It's not as easy to upgrade on Nunes than people think.
Kounde? He is more of a hybrid of RB/RCB, with Lamal mainly holding the width, not Kounde. Also impossible to prize him away from Barca.
Frimpong? Basically more of a winger, almost like the opposite of Koune, holds the width, but doesn't defend much.
Kimmich? He is 30, not sure that's the right profile to go for.
Livramento? Better defensively for sure, but he hardly contributes to Newcastle's attack, he is kinda like a Walker to them, which if that's what we want, then sure, I want him too for that.
This is why I've wanted
Vanderson, he is about the only realistic option, who plays as an attacking RB, who is an upgrade on Nunes (brilliant defensively, and also contributes to the attack).
This is why selling Nunes is such a no-go for me, he is currently doing a role that very few players in the world are doing, bombing up and down the wing all game, with decent build up and crossing. Yes, he has the bozo moments, but he has to learn the role more and the progress this season has been obvious.
