Would we have won the treble without spending the £100m on Jack? I personally dont think so. He wasnt the key to it, he didnt drive us to the titles but he was a very key part of it.

Money well spent I say. The fact he isnt a City player or a Pep player now doesnt matter for me, things change. I wish he'd kicked on after that but it isnt to be.

But for me and a lot of other people that iconic parade photo of him sums up his contribution to City, in many ways.

I'm sick of reading posters justifying his time here with shit like - "he was great in the treble season. He draws fouls and gets a free kick. He's great with kids, especially disabled kids. It's not my money so I don't care he cost 100m", etc.

Some people have no value of money. We took a big gamble paying a British record 100m and he's been a failure on the whole. His basic salary for 4 seasons is over 60m. Let that sink in! Sixty million quid for what? A solid contribution to the treble winning season? And sporadic half hearted performances since. He's took the piss, imo, big time!
A solid contribution to our treble season is worth £60m wages of someone else’s money to me & his parade celebrations were priceless

That photo was the last high point of his career.
Shame he could not back it up after that photo.

Yeah, forums are the modern day version of old women gossiping about the town bicycle.

Some people are probably privy to snippets of information and a combination of speculation and Chinese whispers takes that initial snippet and turns it into, as you say, Grealish is the new Gazza.

Maybe he is, but my own bias because I like Grealish as a person and a footballer is that these issues are wildly exaggerated.

Clearly he's done something to piss Pep off because Pep's treatment of him this season seems to indicate that.

I think this gets to the heart of the demonization of Grealish, because to defend Grealish is to criticize Pep's treatment of him by implication.

Or, to put it another way, in order to defend Pep's treatment of him it's helpful to spread the narrative that Jack is a bad apple.

I don't care about any of that. I'm willing to consider the possibility that Grealish seems to be the type to have an opinion and to voice it, and Pep is the type to take it personally.

But City fans smell blood in the water and Grealish appears to be on the way out, so we're at the he was shit anyway, a poor signing, only had a few good games, probably a pisshead, stage.

I have a nagging feeling that Jack will prove the naysayers wrong next season.

Spot on

Not that I condone any City player celebrating the treble season, especially on the day of the parade, but that was a sure fire indicator of Jack's alleged drinking problems.

The party before the FA Cup final against the Rags wasn't a great idea, which was sanctioned by Pep.

It's OK watching him pissed up on TV on the back of the team bus with his jesus crucifixion pose. I watched it live. It's not your money as you live overseas but it's a small percentage of match going blues money who turn up to see Grealish prancing around on the left touchline fannying about. SC's and match tickets have been rising each season to help pay players salaries. Jack hasn't earned his money and the term 'stealing a living' comes to mind.

As for his solid treble season contribution he scored 5 goals with 7 assists. Plenty of players could have done that. As for this season he's scored 1 goal and 1 assist. That's pathetic and the main reason Pep wants rid of him.

I think you're fully aware what I said was tongue in cheek.

Regardless of whether he did or didn't drink to excess at KDB's leaving do, he doesn't help himself at all being pictured as the last person coming out of the place. It's not great optics and he should have the intelligence and awareness not to be putting himself in that position by now.

I'm sure the others had alcohol too, but I would imagine done so in moderation with more self control. A player that isn't established in the team should be doing all they can do to get back in it. Leave earlier than the others, show some professionalism. Unfortunately I don't think he has that desire and on £300k a week he's stealing a living.

Yes most footballers are very sensible at parties like pre a cup final for example.

Maybe he should have just put a Groucho Marx disguise on. Last one to leave.

Tuf tut.

I think you're playing mental gymnastics where there's no need to. Guardiola isn't going to freeze out the club record signing and someone who is the 3rd top earner at the club, not to mention a player Pep went out of his way to sign and champion, unless that player had quite demonstrably let him down in terms of the basics of professionalism.

We're not talking about Kalvin Philipps or even Matheus Nunes. Grealish has been the PR poster boy for the club since his signing. Yet Nunes has started more PL games this season than Grealish has managed in the last two seasons. He's a bad egg in terms of the way he lives his life, and people don't want to acknowledge it because on some weird level for a lot of supporters Jack is "relatable". Which is basically a euphemism for "he likes a drink and is pretty unprofessional and unguarded in how he lives his life".

To be fair, Grealish crashing his Range Rover into multiple parked cars while very pissed up and wearing slippers during lockdown showed he liked an ale a bit too much for a pro footballer, before we bought him

I can only speak for myself.

I really can't understand when people don't know when it's time to stop drinking, and just continue drinking for the sake of it.

Back to your post.

City must have known about Jack's issues? As you say, they were well documented in public, let alone in private. City compile a dossier on every transfer target, including their off field personal life. City obviously thought it was a chance worth taking, and were hoping to turn Jack around, and make him more proffesional.

We are never getting £50m for him.

I still think that's cheap for Jack Grealish with 2 years still on his contract, I would keep him if nobody comes up with £50million, He can still be a great player and win more silverware at City

Grealish was a personal request of Pep's. Was widely reported at the time that Pep had watched him against City the previous season and gone straight to Txiki to say "I love that player". I suspect because Pep wanted him so badly they ignored some of the off the field stuff which they really shouldn't have.

Jack has got to fight the Demons, Southgate let him down, it hurt not playing for England and since then it's been downhill, Pep is right, it's all down to Jack Now, Buy into Pep's new plans and give him 100% in training and cutting out his lifestyle or leave

Pep can not make it any clearer

It's now time for Jack to grow up and to take some responsibility about his life.

A career we all dream of playing for City, and as a professional footballer, a lovely partner, a new baby, lifestyle, money, etc.

Honestly, some people don't know how lucky they are in life.
