I really don’t get how a car was allowed to be anywhere near that street.

The vid is absolutely horrific and yet had he fully floored it and kept going it could have been significantly even worse.

Nothing but speculation but the clips circulating would suggest to me perhaps a different reason other than terror related. Maybe the guy was not with it mentally for whatever reason. If it was a planned, deliberate attack wouldn't they just floor it right through the middle of the crowd until they smash into something? If you're sick enough to contemplate planning something like that, you're probably not planning on living yourself.

I've just seen the footage, which I WONT be posting on here

Horrific

Merseyside police must be completely incompetent. How does a car gain access to there? There's been road closed signs on that street for a week (I go there, twice a week, dueto work).

Hope quick recoveries for all

We've just reported an update from Merseyside Police that a 53-year-old white British man has been arrested.

Here's the full statement from their spokesperson:

"We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight's incident on Water Street in Liverpool city centre.

"We can confirm the man arrested is a 53-year-old white British man from the Liverpool area.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances leading up to the collision.

"We would ask people not to share distressing content online but to send the footage or information directly to us MerPolCC or pass on information by calling 101 quoting log 784.

The video footage is grim indeed. I'm not going to speculate on what lead up to it just hope that
there are no fatalities.

Thank goodness for the incompetent police officer fighting on the floor with the suspect !

So sad to see this happen. My thoughts are with everyone involved in this shocking incident.

Not accidental maybe but it is looking like a head loss incident after the driver turned up the wrong street and then had their car attacked.

Avoidable on so many levels.

Just hoping nobodies life has been ruined from it.
The whole world new half the country was in Liverpool today for that, some prick decides to take a drive!

Fair play to the person on the bonnet who got flung off, looks like they were trying to do something to stop it.

That acceleration into the crowd when stopped is fucking horrendous, then ploughing through people!

Hope all are OK apart from him behind the wheel.

Truly shocking incident.

Carnage and chaos-seems likely there will be numerous casualties.

Police will be closing the whole scene down and preserving what they can whilst trying to evacuate the casualties.

Police were incredibly quick to react and ensure the suspect was in one piece to be arrested-

Command structures set up, cordons -everybody kept on duty to ensure the initial scene is protected and the suspect can be managed forensically and medically.

Huge task ahead for them. Key to any big job is to stop everything happening so the investigation can then begin.

Okay this is a close up of just before the horror unfolded and it seems to back up that for some reason the car is in the wrong place. People are remonstrating with him and somebody opens his door, then others are kicking the car and throwing stuff at it. He stops momentarily then carries on. The video doesn't show the horrific scenes, hopefully this is okay to post, apologies if not and delete.
