Of these, 11 remain in hospital. All are in a stable condition and appear to be recovering well, she says.

The above update is the most important and welcoming part of the press conference statements. I'm sure most people who saw the images initially would have likely thought a fatalities statement would have followed shortly.

With regards the driver.

I'm no legal eagle... Police confirmed arrested for both driving whilst under influence of drugs, [or above the prescribed limit] and attempted murder. If later charged for same offences would the drugs charge, [in general], make the prosecution of the attempted murder charge tougher, easier or does it not make any difference?

From what I believe the police need to 'prove' that the drivers actions could have resulted in death and in addition 'prove' an intention to kill. Would a failed drugs test enable the defence to point to this for his lack of control rather than a
'premeditated' action of someone not under the influence? Obviously the police in this actual case may have other undisclosed evidence to assist in the prosecution.

However, hypothetically I would be interested in views of the legally informed people on the forum?

Edited as arrested and not charged yet
Get a life would be my advice.

A made a comment about how inept Merseyside Police are yesterday.

I have just watched a video on X of a Merseyside Police car left empty with it's doors open, a Liverpool fan gets in it, pretends to drive it, gets out of the Police car with a police officers hat on, walks around the Police car telling other Liverpool fans to get back, who are cheering, laughing, and filming him.

I tried to find the video on X again, but I couldn't find it.
What’s your point with this? I could give you numerous stories of idiots nicking police equipment-

They were quite busy yesterday-someone didn’t lock the car door-big deal

This, people blaming Liverpool fans for his actions, id like to see if he would have made it out alive if that happened around Upton Park when we had our parade.
Or if it happened at one of our parades, I doubt there would be too much criticism on here if any of our fans had started attacking the car. I think some posters are letting their dislike of Liverpool fans in general influence their opinions somewhat.

That said, he hasn’t been charged yet, let alone been up in court and like anyone else he’s entitled to a fair trial. Assuming it does go to trial, while it doesn’t look good for him something might come out that throws a different light on things.

As you are not open to any other scenario other than the one you have told yourself has happened. I see the swerve a different way to you. If you see how he would react scared for his life, he wasn't going to then stop after hitting people at first is he. You dont even know if he is looking straight ahead to know where he is going considering his windows are being smashed, foot down, head turned to his smashed windows etc. We don't know but you keep saying he's driven into them all purposely without any second thought.

Hes quite clear here don't judge until you know the truth unless it's his truth that he has judged upon, thread is barking mad

Im thinking that this was a red on red situation?...Can't really tar all Scousers with the same brush though, Everton managed to host a stadium close party which I suspect passed without incident?

I'm glad it's out now that je was drugged up. There's no blame anywhere else whatsoever now.
There really is though as to wtf the council/police hadn't closed the road properly or if it was closed why the fuck it was opened when so still crowded. There's no way Merseyside plod can come out of this without showing their gross incompetence we've all seen so many times.

I know we all keep telling each other not to speculate (despite speculating ourselves!) but I agree that it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he’s a Liverpool fan himself.

the grainy car image puts him in a red top...and perhaps pissed/ coked up ( speculation) on the parade route....I think most toffees woulda taken to their beds till next week at least!

I am always a little wary of speculating before a trail. Just because someone says you have done something, does not mean you have.

This is a little different though as the police will know what is in his blood, by now.

The road was closed. They opened the barriers for an ambulance to get it, so it could deal with a heart attack victim. The car has tailgated the ambulance.

So it sounds like the driver was off his tits, drove up the wrong street, Got swarmed by an angry mob attempting to smash his car in and drag him out of it. He's panicked and in a haze of drugs made an attempt to escape and has plowed through the crowd to do so.

Depressingly avoidable incident.

Did you miss the word inept?

You're right, the police officers didn't lock the car doors.

Not only didn't they do that, they weren't in the car or near the car either.

Just another oversight by Merseyside Police. Another to add to the on-going list.

TBF to Merseyside Police, they were in their riots vans when Liverpool fans trashed the City coach from the roofs of those riots vans, and along the route to Anfield.

Good grief-you know if it had been one of my cops I’d get them in. ask them what happened, write a report, and then make sure they bought cakes for the team as a fine…then it would be forgotten.

You’d be complaining it they’d stayed sat in the car during the chaos.
