Good grief-you know if it had been one of my cops I’d get them ask them what happened, write a report, and then make sure they bought cakes for the team as a fine…then it would be forgotten.
I'm sure if it was one of your cops Bert, it wouldn't have happened. And you would have bought them all a cake for being professional Police officers. But let's not dwell on Merseyside Police force being a shit Police force, because they are. That is fact. I'll leave it at that.

How wouldn’t it have happened? If someone is off their head on drugs last year at our parade and this exact same thing happened, are you saying it wouldn’t have happened because it’s not the Merseyside police?

No, mistakes happen especially when incredibly stressful situations suddenly happen. That’s reality.

As a chief inspector once said to me ‘what have you learnt?’ I replied ‘never to make a mistake ever again..’

No idea what this bloke may or may not have taken but the use of cocaine is widespread in this country-and boy does it turn people into arrogant aggressive cunts.
Whilst having absolutely no idea (obviously) of what drugs he had been taking, I was struck by how cool he seemed when he was filmed out of the car and then getting back in and slamming the door. Not sure when this was in the timeline, but he appeared unruffled at that point and (as you say) had an arrogance about him.

Possibly-being slightly flippant I first noticed how he was steering with one hand on the bottom of the wheel…always grips my shit that

Sky reporting a supers extension until tomorrow lunch time which implies that he did likely go to hospital (which stops the 24 hour clock)

Interesting because there is at least 1 car in front of the perp'

So at least 2 cars tailgated the Ambulance.
I'm not watching it all again, but could it be the "ambulance", ie Paramedic car that he followed ? It's quite normal for an amulance "car" to respond to a suspected heart attack.

I’m not much older. I drink either in The Roebuck Alkrington or The Fairway in new moston. It’s rife, even among folk my age. Just openly going into the loo to do a line every hour. Never seen the point in it, although you’d forgive the youngsters because, well, they’re young and dumb.
You’d think by the time you got in your 50s you’d have a bit of oil in your can, driving in area with thousands of people walking about and hundreds of coppers while unfit to drive isn’t the sharpest tool in the box.

Think he’s talking about the copper’s helmet getting nicked from an unlocked and unoccupied police car but I could be wrong!

It still shouldn’t have got through under any circumstances.
I will reserve judgement on that till the full story comes out.
If he was immediately up the arse of the ambulance and it was physically impossible to close the barriers before the car got through. Then I am not sure what they could do.
If they had stood there for 5 minutes and not closed the barriers after the ambulance had passed, then that's an entirely different story.
Like everything, there will be things that could be done differently. But if this guy does not get in his car under the influence of drugs, none of this happens. We can all try and chuck blame about and apportion it to which ever section of society we dislike. But if the guy does not get in his car, none of this happens.
I have absolutely no problem with anyone taking drugs, at whatever age. In fact, they can fill their boots with whatever substance they desire and enjoy themselves. Just as long as their behaviour when under the influence does not have a detrimental affect on anyone else. No one would have cared if this bloke had stood there sniffing all day and got the bus home.
If this bloke is under the influence of drugs, in no state to drive and in an area which he had no authorisation to be. Then he and he alone is 100% responsible for this incident. It's not the fault of Showsec guard on minimum wage who did not close the road off. it's not the kids who bricked his window, it's not the coppers fault who forgot to lock his car and it's not the council workers fault who planned out the route.

Have appropriate measures and protocols in place. It’s absolutely standard with events like this. Counter terrorism measures can only be as strong as their weakest link.

Let's see what comes out in the wash. For all we know, they might have had multiple blockage points on the road and this guy has parked his car up inside them, before they were installed and gone on a 2 day bender.

There shouldn’t be any vehicles inside the perimeter before the parade starts several miles away. Any such vehicles should be removed from the area, or destroyed if necessary.

Take your point about wait and see, but these are simply factual statements about what should happen at an event like this. And at least one of them didn’t happen, whether the car was inside or outside the perimeter.

Anyway, great news about the direction of travel with the recoveries. Have plenty of Liverpool mates who I’m genuinely pleased for this season. And I’m glad they are all unharmed.

And now there’s a bit more detail I’m consciously trying to avoid passing comment on this guy in custody, so don’t take my silence on him the wrong way.
