Pep Ljinders appointed as assistant coach | James French joins as set-piece coach (p15)

Did we also get linked with a coach from Australia for the back room staff…….thought I saw it last night but no sign of it mentioned again today!! That would be the three outgoings replaced…..Ljinders, Toure and ??

I saw a single piece in the Mirror claiming that Alessandro Diamanti (Melbourne City youth coach) was linked

We can’t exactly score less
Not a real fan of stats but, we are not as bad as many people think, ranked second for goals from corners with 6 other teams 24/25 season, we take just over 46% as short corners, definetely room for improvement but we are good as most and better than many.

I think as a % of the number of corners we get we are pretty bad

There is a total misconception with corners as the number scored is quite low it amuses me when the crowd get excited when a team gets a corner The short corner tactic is a way of controlling the likelyhood of loosing the procession which often happens with long ones City's perceived weakness of being countered
Something that I don't understand is why we always have the whole team in the penalty area when defending my view is you leave two speedy players on halfway line ready to counter this would also stop the opponents flooding our area

Its cultural. English football culture is based on long balls, duels and set pieces. Its because we live on a rainy island with lots of wind. Long balls and crosses can be caught by the wind and therefore misjudged by defenders more leading to more goals.
It also created a lot of muddy pitches where passing on the floor was suboptimal. Its why we celebrate tackling unlike most countries too - the concept of winning one vs one duels is baked into our football heritage. Whoever wins that long ball header on a windy day is likely to score or save a goal. Every tackle was a match saving tackle due to the proximity of the ball to the goal.

Now grounds tend to be bowl shaped and we have drainage and the like thereof, these things don't matter so much at top level but the historical culture hasn't caught up with reality yet.

I remember something, someone from Melbourne?

Diamanti, used to play for West Ham. Had a wand of a left foot.
Thanks, I haven't been following the CFG teams. I'm surprised City don't seem to make more of their links with other clubs? I just glimpsed a headline somewhere?

I don't think the game plan of 'hoof it long, run fast, initiate contact, throw yourself to the floor' will work too well outside of the red shirt clubs. Hope he's got more ideas than that.
I still clearly remember when Raheem Sterling first came to City from LiVARpool. It must have been a shock not getting the same decisions playing in Blue.
