Stadium Turnstile Upgrades

It's the glaring fact that the club even mentioned it, if this is just for staff (Which is another argument) why mention staff matters to matchday attendees?

We didn't need to know the security arrangements, the real point is that these expensive systems will be integrated into turnstiles and food kiosks etc after they have trialed them IMHO.
It’s all info gathering, just like the 10% off at the club shop & food/drink outlets, when you no longer spend enough at the club, you will be up for the chop, and the club will now have several ways of shipping you off

Why does the club ‘installing camera’s for accreditation’ have people thinking they’re installing facial recognition cameras, which are very different pieces of kit? Can’t see it myself.
because they’re being introduced at every single one, when they could just install them at disabled entrances etc

U told me u had read the e-mail.
I have read the email. I don’t believe they have fully explained the real reason why the turnstiles have been installed. Therefore they’ve lied to us.

I work in marketing. I understand the importance of data and tracking your ‘customer’ behaviour and how you can use that data to make decisions in your business to increase revenue. That’s why these turnstiles have been installed.

I think he’s spot on. As you say it’s not life or death but for generations it’s been a release from the stresses and strains of everyday life for communities. Now it’s a pain in the arse just sorting a ticket for a family member and the match day experience is completely sanitised.
Pressing a few buttons on a computer is not a hardship, when we used to go to away games I had to nip out of work and queue up at Maine Road to buy tickets on the day they were released, now that was a pain in the arse. Also i don’t get the sanitised experience, we go on our unofficial supporters club bus, have a beer, support the team and have a couple of beers when we get back, I just don’t see a difference. And my ticket in the Colin Bell Stand L2 padded seat is £485 for my FOC status.

Yeah,yeah, yeah.

But apart from that?

;-)

Probably to stop conspiracy theorists coming out with all sorts of waffle.....
I'm far from a conspiracy theorist mate, but like many other fans I'm suspicious of where this might lead to. And it's not like the club have covered themselves in glory on certain issues over the past few years. The disabled parking fiasco, for example, led to a total climbdown when fans pushed back, yet instead of apologising the club came out with a bullshit statement about it never being their intention to bring it in.

I'm sure plenty of others will have received this email from City but for the benefit of anyone that hasn't seen it:

Now that the domestic season is over, we are upgrading the turnstiles at both the Etihad Stadium and Joie Stadium as part of our stadium-wide efforts to invest in the latest technology.

The new turnstiles, the installation of which began this week, will over time make entry quicker and easier for fans.

What this means for you
Apart from the addition of a new screen for scanning your ticket, the new turnstiles will not affect the way you enter the stadium on a matchday.

In line with our commitment to incorporating the latest technology stadium-wide, the new turnstiles are being installed with cameras so that some staff can display their accreditation but the cameras will not be in operation on a matchday for fans as they enter the stadium.

Because of the upgrade, current mobile Season Tickets will no longer be active. Here’s what to expect:

  • From next week, your Season Ticket will move to the expired section of your phone wallet – or you can delete it manually.

  • Ahead of next season, we will send you a new Season Ticket to download, along with simple instructions and more information about the new turnstiles. Downloading your new pass will be straight forward with only a few steps.

  • Fans who use a physical Season Ticket for accessibility reasons will be contacted separately, and a replacement season ticket will be issued to them.

  • Our Fan Support team will be running a dedicated support service to help with any issues. More details will be shared nearer the time.

Should you have any questions about the new turnstiles or the steps for downloading your new Season Ticket, please do not hesitate to contact our dedicated Fan Support team.

Thanks for your continued support as we enhance your stadium experience.

Simon Cowell and Tom Cruise have no chance of getting in once 'facial recognition' is introduced with all the Plastic work they get done!!

If they are not using it on matchdays why are they mentioning it? All sounds a bit strange considering if they weren't going to scan supporters face they needn't have said anything.
Probably trailing it to test the system is my bet.

If they consider it a success then it will get implemented.

Each to their own. I didn’t mind the odd dentist appointment to get out of school to queue for tickets as a kid at Maine Road. At least if you really wanted a ticket you had to get off your arse to get it. Rather than the club giving them to cooperates for a big game

I'm sure this is the ultimate intention - the articles from a few years back suggested it could lead to much quicker entry as you wouldnt need to show or insert any ticket or phone, merely show your face.

The part I can't quite get in my head is how they deal with those that dont have season tickets - like friends & family, those who buy on very rare occasions, tourists, away fans etc who aren't going to pose for a photo every time.Which makes me think it'll be a voluntary system.

I'm not averse to the reactions of with legitimate concerns about the safety of the system, and the issue of who has access to the data. I'm less bothered by those who suddenly see there is a way the club are going to enforce the "not transferrable" rules theyve always had but have previously been unable/unwilling to enforce.

So it's all in our head then.

Suspicion is a good thing.

Spoke to a man on the phone from City today as I had a few questions about next season. I mentioned the new turnstiles and he was pretty confident in the next few years, facial recognition will be used for fans entering the stadium.
