There are a number of very gifted players who don't achieve much. Two examples are at West Ham. Paqueta and Kudos. They can do wonderful tricks, flicks and assists and goals but you need a good team and good mentality to become a top player. It's up to City to do the extra research that fans can't do.

We did want them all, though, and we stuck to our assessment of their value when other clubs were willing to go higher

We’ve got almost all of those calls right, and I’d include Rice in that. To have completely priced Arsenal out and convinced someone who didn’t want to move up north to sign for us would have cost an eye-watering amount, and frankly he just isn’t that special

My post refers specifically to the transfer falling through due to us not meeting a lower valuation—only to then pay more for a player with less talent. It’s not about any other reasons.
