Maine Road

I was just about to say that I doubt it, as his mother lived on Woodbridge Grove in Northern Moor right up until her death. Eddie used to regularly visit her in his Rolls Royce and give all the local scallywags a few pence to ‘mind it’ for him.

But I had a quick look on Wikipedia and it says he went to Claremont Road Juniors and lived in the shadow of Maine Road, so you could well be right.
I was born on Woodbridge grove 1960 he was friends with my uncle I believe

Eddie was born in 1941 as Edward Hugh McGinnis in Glasgow. By the age of nine, Eddie, a talented footballer, had moved with his family to Manchester and Maine Road - literally opposite his new Moss Side house - became his second home.

@rice10, how did you know it was number 252?
Eddie is my dad.

If you were facing the main entrance to the right of the stadium you basically had the car park then my Dad’s house was the second one along. He could only have been one house closer.

Trying to visualise Maine Road after all these years. Can't honestly remember any houses on the road, obviously loads of terraced street backing onto it. As you say If he went to Claremont Road Juniors he would have been near as dammit to the ground.
Always dreamt of living oppoisite there - and now even less likely opposite the Etihad, unless I am found begging outside Asda.

Ah, wow! He was a big part of my childhood, I loved watching Little & Large on the telly growing up.

So would 252 have been the house near where the white car is parked in the middle of this photo?

Did any of the family attend Oswald Rd Junior School?

Me too...lived on Kippax Street

A lot of the houses on Maine Rd were demolished when the school added a playing field to that side...probably 1980s/90s
I went to Claremont Rd and if I remember rightly I think the houses that were on Lloyd st where the school playing field was added were all derelict and wasteland for years beforehand?

I grew up in Wansford st opposite the maine stand and maine road was a wonderful place to ride bikes , play football and cricket in the summer as a child and when they started doing concerts in the 80s I saw many legends play there
