Yaya Toure publicly stated that Manchester City denied him compassionate leave to visit his dying brother before the brother's death and funeral. He claimed the club refused his request, despite knowing of his brother's deteriorating health. The club denied this.

12/13 Yaya was absolutely world class. Made everyone else look like 5 year olds.

Someone once said on here Yaya had 4 world class seasons and 4 average to poor seasons.

I do think the death of his brother played a huge role, he was never the same afterwards and he was only 30/31 at the time.

But he just wasn’t as consistent as the other core members of that team and It would be a disservice to the likes of Aguero, KDB, Silva and Kompany who gave 100% every single season they were at the club to give him the same honour.

And dragging the club through the papers a bunch of times with nonsense allegations he’d later walk back is a part of it too.

He got his recognition from the club and whilst he was the critical player in ending our drought (had he not come off against QPR we win that game comfortably too), his off field antics did damage his legacy at the club.

He also had an excellent and successful career at Barcelona. When people think of Yaya Toure outside of City they probably don't just think of his City career. I would say that Aguero, Silva, Kompany and De Bruyne are only thought of in terms of their impact with us.
