Any one used the new dropping off charge system at the airport yet? Did a drop off on Monday but forgot to pay by the deadline of midnight the day after.

Is it worth appealing when I get the parking notice letter?

It is always worth appealing, provided you do it properly. Don’t forget, it’s not a ‘fine’ it’s an invoice. There is plenty of advice out there on what to do, the golden rule though is that you NEVER tell them who was driving the car.

Since airport bylaws apply, the keeper cannot be held liable and you, as the registered keeper, are under no obligation to tell them who was driving.

As it’s APCOA as well, it’ll be a piece of piss, as long as you follow the guidance. Moneysaving expert has a huge amount of advice as does this one

I’ve never paid a ‘fine’ and I’ve had them from both train stations and airports!

Last bit, I forgot to pay the Dart Charge when crossing the Thames and got a letter advising, because it was a first offence, I had 2 weeks to pay the original £2.50 charge, which seems like a much better way to go about things and I’ll definitely be paying next time I cross…

One of my housemates did same a couple of weeks ago, she got the letter and it stated to just pay the original amount, £5, could be just because it was new, still is fairly new, so maybe you'll get same.

edit, have you tried just paying it, it may accept your fiver.

I got picked up the other week from T2. When I went on the pay it said I couldn’t because the person had been there too long & I (as car owner) would get a parking charge through the post.
She was 3 minutes over.
After 2 weeks of cacking it over a £100 charge the letter came & it said £5.
I paid it immediately in case it was a misprint & should have said £50!
Again I’m thinking is it cos it’s a new system or maybe first offence.

Cheers. No it won’t let you pay unfortunately

Went though it last week dropping off our neighbours as his car had just become poorly and was expecting to 'bleep' on the way out but, saw plenty of signs to do it on-line. £5 for literally the 2 minutes I was there....

No panic, paid on-line on my return home.

This may be a stupid question, but why don't they just have a barrier where you pick up a ticket and pay on your way out like airports in every other country in the world?

Obviously I know the answer. Because if they did that, then no-one would forget and you wouldn't be able to charge them a nice juicy 100 quid 'fine.'

They've probably had loads of people appealing and complaining because of the numpties who get stuck at the barrier and hold everyone up for five minutes or longer, which then takes them into a different price category

My sons just had a letter through today for it. £100 fine, £60 if he pays within two weeks.

Going to appeal it, using the template off the first post here -

Bill, anything to do with airports is a rip off in Britain. You can skip the lengthy queues at security by paying £5 or £10 (can't remember) to fast track.
The laugh is that means it's in the airports interest to have long queues, if they didn't they wouldn't make any money. Rip off Britain.

100% agree the rip offs start with parking, fast track security as you say, having to wind your way through 'duty free; to get to the rip-off food and drink, extra charge for 'priority boarding', and if heaven forbid you smoke the dirtiest filthiest smoking area imaginable, try Amsterdam or Munich for civilised smoking areas. Last couple of years we've used a cross channel ferry and had a couple of great touring holidays

Heathrow 5 pound to drop someone off. 2 months ago increased to 6 pound. Fucking scandalous.

Paying to drop off in an airport is second only to the exorbitant parking fees in hospital for scumbaggery.

My son got a ticket a few weeks ago as he forgot to pay the charge. Used the standard appeal template from the money saving expert forum and got the confirmation they’ve cancelled the penalty charge today.
