I can tell you that it's unfortunately the same everywhere, it's not exclusive to here. On our own forum, there are people who would systematically belittle Cherki's accomplishments just because he wasn't a world-class player at just 17 like Yamal is, and others who would praise him after an abysmal performance just because he did a nice trick for those YouTube reels.

Cherki will never be the solid but yet boring guy pulling the same good game week in week out. There'll always be a roller-coaster feeling to what he actually delivers on the pitch. He is a alien in terms of creation and when it doesn't work, and sometimes it just doesn't, you get the feeling that he doesn't give a flying f*** because you know he can do wonders. But that's not how it works. Give him teammates on the same wavelength, runners that can create space, dependable passers he can build the play up with and a coach with a clear vision, he'll thrive much more often than he tanks. I have no doubt that Man City is a great opportunity for him.

Oh absolutely agree, that was my point dont judge him over the space of two games, what is the feeling at your end about how negotiations are going?

I can't really answer to you. With the new ownership, nothing is going how it should go. Textor ain't like De Laurentis, but he still does appear like a pretty unreliable bloke and quite frankly a lunatic. Everything has been dodgy with him.

I still think that the player will have the final say and that a deal will be struck pretty soon. But it wouldn't be the first time that things don't go as expected with Textor.

Because we have been so open about getting our business done prior to the club World Cup it has put us in a weaker position from a negotiation standpoint.

Lyon are obviously trying to call our bluff as the know we are very keen to get it done before Tuesday. Wouldn’t be surprised if it dragged on at this point now. We know how stubborn city can be if they don’t feel they are getting a fair fee

Textor will try to screw us, we can rely on that at least. US moneyballer - he's trying to break Cherki and get an auction going in the summer for him.

The stubbornness is a Txiki trait which I am assuming Viana won't want to soften in his first official window. However, Txiki had the benefit (because of his own doing) of only needing a player or two for the majority of his Summer windows because the squad was fine.

This squad isn't now fine and we are crying out for a player like Cherki. We could wait. But what's the use? They're not upping the price by £20m, it's only a few. Lyon know that he's a bargain - and that it'll be a huge benefit having him here early than if we came back at the second window - but they're not in a position to take the piss. Just like we're not really in a position to take the piss either.

I suspect it'll get done with City thinking they've paid more than they could have and Lyon thinking they could have got more than they did. But at least he'll be here!

I'm not sure of that at all. None of our player sales has been particularly impressive under him, they're even rather disappointing. But as everyone knows that he is in dire need of cash, he doesn't have much leverage.

If he gets €40m for Cherki, it would still be laughable business on his side. And I don't think it'll reach this amount.
 
This thread is like the PL charges one when we all thought news was going to drop a few months back. Lyon will play ball, let’s chill out haha.
