That there's corruption, I don't doubt. I could even tell a few tales, but proving it is another matter. There are very few successful prosecutions. Or prosecutions of any kind.I'm not talking about normal day too day operative, I'm talking about the stuff you don't see. You're assuming that there's no corruption and everything they do is above board. £24 million to extend a tramway 300 yards? Really?
Then there's the sneaky laws they bring in for no other reason than to make money, such as fining somebody £1000 for putting their bin out for the binmen (or whatever they're called these days) one day early, and other totally outrageous amounts for minor misdemeanours. Sorry, but that's corruption in my view.
Another one is issuing fake summons for council tax arrears, and I have actual proof of that one.
The trouble is, I see a lot of unsubstantiated bollocks on the internet, which, if it named names, would be libel. What I hardly ever see is anything that amounts to substantial evidence, let alone proof.
For example, a lot of people assume that if a development is approved that they dislike, brown envelopes must be involved. That's not necessarily the case at all, but this amounts to an allegation of a very serious fraud which, if true, would get people imprisoned. I don't say it never happens, but it doesn't happen everyday, and not for petty amounts. It wouldn't be worth it for those involved, and you'd have to bribe quite a few people each time.
