The Labour Government

well I never

Where they all going to go? The very rich seem almost like pariahs these days, with normal people around the world struggling day to day, when some twat in their tenth Ferrari turns up I have a feeling they are as unwelcome here as everywhere else. I love City but the money these players are on and how we are told turn up to matches when it costs a fortune these days just shows how disconnected they are from reality.

As we run out of money as a nation anyone getting anything for 'free' is becoming a scapegoat. You are probably the last generation that will get a state pension in the current form.
Sadly, we have as a nation missed many chances to shore up the countries wealth - north sea oil, council house sell off, privatisation of everything for short term gain and the transfer of wealth and capital to individuals. I seem to remember the post cold war and northern Ireland 'peace dividend' was going to fund the welfare state and NHS for generations, but we gave that money to the defence industry to fund our 21st century middle east adventures instead.
Sadly, as a nation, we've sold off the family silver, downsized and even got rid of the tat on eBay. There is nothing left but squabbling over the crumbs.
We ran out of money many years ago. We borrow £150bn per year just to fill the gap in the finances. So when Labour or any other government talks of balancing the books it's just total bollocks. Remember that we spend £105bn per year just on debt interest, that's more than we spend on education, x4 more than we spend on defence. Balancing the books is no different to juggling the interest repayments on your credit card whilst borrowing more.

The problem is that people just don't understand how catastrophic the last 5 years have been. Imagine if we could find £400bn, how good would that be? That was the cost of COVID which we'll all have to pay, £10k per household! Who on here has got £10k to give to the government? And that's just to pay off a debt.

Add in the Ukraine war, the aftermath of 2008, years of Tory failure and the nonsense that has gone on with things like Brexit. Is it any surprise that we're completely screwed? It has nothing to do with taxation or lack thereof on the wealthy who were wealthy before and will long remain wealthy afterwards.

We appear to have no balance in our media coverage anymore. It was never that balanced but now it is totally partisan. Today's target has been Sadiq Khan who today has been knighted but certain section of our press have chosen to attack it as a reward for failure. Whatever one's views of his performance we again have treble standards. I did not see the same outlets questioning the award of a knighthood to that well known failure Grant Shapps or whatever name he is currently using.
Balance is in the eye of the beholder.
Many would say Mainstream TV news is to the left of the actilual centre of British politics.

What evidence would you say there is for that eye of the beholder view? There's at least two studies that show the MSM is platforming Reform at a significantly higher level than say the Lib Dems and the Green Party and that this was the case prior to the previous election. They were in effect getting close to the same coverage as the two main traditional parties.

Whatever I do or don't think of Farage one thing you have to say is he's been very successful at bending the media agenda to his will.

Letting Reeves get away with it scott free for post election incompetence for one.
Can you imagine what it would have been like if the Torries had made those colossal cock ups?

The sun's out, Reeves is throwing money around....

Can anyone say that they personally are any worse off because of this Labour government?

I include pensioners who've had a £9 a week rise in the pension (offset by losing WFA).

Some with no pay increase but still prices rising - but that's not necessarily because of this government.

Employers struggling because of the NI increase?

Someone laid off because of the NI increase?

Commuters paying £3 rather than £2 per bus journey?

But millions paying less on mortgages.

Go on, who personally is worse off under Labour?

You need to ask tory spokesman Chris Mason.
