I totally agree that £70m is a LOT for a full back.

Too much for that position.

Problem is - we need a right back, who is homegrown, ideally in their early 20s, and can be a starter in a team challenging for all the trophies.

That limits the pool considerably, and means it’s very much a seller’s market.

If we do want Livramento, Newcastle have him on a three year contract with CL football next season and no reason whatsoever to sell.

And they know they’re in a position of strength given the pool is so small.

This might be one we just need to swallow, and accept we’ve hugely overpaid on.

We’ve negotiated some incredible fees so far on Cherki, Reijnders and Ait-Nouri - and we bailed on Wirtz because it got too steep - so we have the money to spend.

Either way - the Club will make the right decision on this one, and if they do buy at £70m - we’re just going to have to accept the unwanted record and move on.

Since we announced Hugo I decided to look into him a lot of articles etc a few top clubs were looking at him, at how he transformed Sporting from a complete mess to title winners. Comparisons to Monchi at Sevilla in the past

What stuck out was how ruthless he is. Even though Amorim was his guy he did say that if results were not good he’d be sacked and a replacement was already lined up.

he ripped the sporting squad apart within two seasons. Signing replacements for players who were still there and gave them the news that that we don’t want you at this club anymore so you have to leave.

The Gyokeres story is one of those examples he had signed a striker the past season but that striker got a bad injury and didn’t return to form. So instead of giving that player a second season he immediately signed Gyokeres due to his performances.

The other trait that stuck out is what we’ve seen his negotiations are brilliant and he is quick to get what he wants. Sporting would have an article out saying they were interested in a player , then the following week that player was signed.

Galatasaray’s facilities were located on a highly valuable piece of land. This year, the club moved to a new facility. The old site — a luxury location — is now being developed into residential housing. That project is bringing in significant money. For now, this is Galatasaray’s main financial safeguard.

I think it does. Unless there is a true replacement identified, i.e one of a similar quality, Ederson for a year rather than 20m is worth it.

My point is not off the mark …Here is direct quote from Bernardo from an interview he gave to the times in 2022:

He has talked publicly about his issues adapting to life in England:

“I was feeling a little bit alone at the time in England and I wasn’t very happy with my life. And if you’re not happy, you don’t do your job as well as you do when you are happy. I was well physically, but if you don’t do your job with a smile on your face, you’re not going to do it as well.

As time went on he met his wife and the Covid restrictions were lifted so he got settled in, but there were struggles along the way.

What is this fascination with a right back all about? Liverpool just won the league with Terence Trent D’arby at right back, Madrid knocked us out of the CL with a midfielder playing at right back, Arsenal have Ben White playing there, whist Barca have Kounde there. If Hakimi isn’t available, and he’s not, the mark up from Nunes isn’t that huge, whoever we get, especially as we now have a left back.

I think the club clearly have RB on the list but I dont think its anywhere near the priority that others do.

Can argue if its right or wrong but Pep and Viana will be looking at the squad and seeing Nunes, Lewis and Akanji as players who have had both good and bad games in that position and unless something major happens there I think we struggle to fit in another specific RB.

Maybe if we suddenly cleared a load of money e.g Walker, Stones, Gundo and Grealish for example and all of a sudden Saudi come after Nunes then yeah we might just put 70m down and back Livramento to be our RB for the next decade but otherwise I will not be surprised if we don't see anything.

If it was a difference maker footballer, I would agree mate.

However, I can't see the club breaking the transfer record for a right back. He isn't going to be the difference between us winning the league and not.

Agree to an extent but we really do need a good RB

Looks as though he has to be home grown though

we dropped 60 on Cancelo, neither was he. Don't think Newcastle will play ball but dont think a record price will be the issue.
