82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

He is getting these chances because he is a clever young player. He is good on the ball; excellent at finding space; good on the half-turn; can pick a pass; and mentally strong. He can improve his physicality, as all young players can, and he is learning as he plays, just like all 20-year-old players. Personally, I am perplexed by the unhealthy criticism but it is nothing new for certain players.

Is he getting all these chances just because he came through the academy? I honestly don’t understand. What is he actually good at? Is he supposed to have great potential? Does he have impressive physical attributes? What is it, seriously?
Does Pep play others just because they came through the academy? No he doesn’t ,so maybe Pep sees something in him you can’t no shame in that he sees much none of us can see.

He’s more like a modern day Geoff Lomax when he plays at right back, when he’s in the middle he’s like a little boy lost. Would he get much game time with any of the top 6 teams ?, I very much doubt it. Probably a nice fella, committed and good to have around but he’s not good enough.
He gets lots of game time with one of the top 2 or 3 teams let alone top 6. What was your point again?

A bit unlucky with the red card, but I can see why it was given.
I can't.

His foot gets propelled up off the boot of the opposition player, who was sliding to win a ball that he had zero chance of winning. He wasn't even in the frame by the time Rico had kicked it away. It was utterly ridiculous but sadly unsurprising that VAR backed the on-field decision.

Vulnerable defensively and no amount of excuses will change that. He hasn't developed at all in the last 3 years. He will always be a utility player at best, unless he decides he actually wants to challenge for the 1st team and moves to another club.
He is 20.
Utility players have a place.
Squad players have a place.
I think he will be more than that.

He's bang average and when you get a red saying to me he wouldn't even get into their team and he's baffled that he gets as much game time as he does for us that says a lot.

Anybody know what the rules for the competition are?

I assume it is a three game ban for violent conduct.
Earliest he can return is for the quarterfinal if that is true.
It would be nice to give Nunes a run of games in a row if that is the case, and build his confidence going into the PL season.

Unless I’m missing something he seemed to redirect is boot in the direction of the player’s face and thus resulted in a red. Gets worse each time you see it.

ARTICLE 9: YELLOW AND RED CARDS
...

9.3 Single yellow cards in the Competition will be cancelled after the quarter-finals.

9.7 Further details on rules and on the management of suspensions and expulsions will be confirmed via circular letter.

Disciplinary
9.4 If a player or team official receives two cautions during two different matches, they will automatically be suspended from their team’s subsequent match.

It's not at all obvious, but I think @Jonas.shaffer on the previous page before may be right. The other player is really late and his leg slides under Rico's leg and pushes it off the floor (in slow motion you can see Rico's boot wobble as the other player makes contact with it).

Rico can't do anything about it - his feet appear to be pretty much on the floor when he plays the ball, but the opponent is slightly lower as he's not getting the ball, so pushes his feet into the ground to try and stop. If anything, I think it could well be a free kick for City.
