10 | Rayan Cherki - 2025/26

Seems too many weren't too impressed. In the heat of the moment, I wasn't either. Then i watched his highlights over and realized he actually did a lot well and created a fair lot.

I get it, his energy was a not below expectations for the Prem. But it is day 1 filks :)

He was fine. Just a little off pace and maybe trying too hard to impress.

I have no doubt about his on-ball quality. He will need to improve intensity in his press. That will come.

He only just joined and this was his first game in essentially a glorified preseason exhibition game.

Love that he tries to make something happen even if it didn't come off properly most of the time. Haaland will love him in the final 3rd.

All new players and all young players (and he is both) need time to develop and need fans to understand that we cannot keep buying ready-made superstars, yet complain, also, when teams like Bournemouth and Brentford recruit young players and sell them in a couple of seasons for 10x the buying price: 'Why can't we do that instead of getting fleeced for City tax?' they say.

Cherki is a huge talent but no 21-year-old joining a new club begins as the player they will become.
Enjoying the development of players like him, Reis, Khusanov, O'Reilly, Echeverri, Lewis, and others, is part of the joy of supporting a club. I hope we see Cherki again in the next match, but it may well be Echeverri who starts and he who comes on.

Certainly not a debut to write home about but he's been here a matter of days, flown out to USA and playing with players he's barely met.

He's going to be a very good player for us I think. You could see some of the things he wanted to do and he's creative with it. Once that clicks with the movement of orders, he will look quality I reckon

Anyone who criticised this performance is stupid. First game, just getting to know his teammates, tactics etc. Let him grow in his pace.

It's his performance thread what where you expecting to see out of the hotel window.in Torquay? The hanging gardens of Babylon perhaps wildebeest galloping majestically..........

I think people are aware it's his first game, they probably just didn't feel the need to put it in every post. They gave others too much credit by not stating the bleeding obvious i guess:-)

I'm still very excited by his signing even though he was a tad bobbins.

Was his first game though
New team mates
Never played in Babylon before

:-)

Early doors - not impressive against Wydad (but hey, neither was Ballon D'or winner Rodri) .

Cherki will improve massively.

The only objection I'd lodge against Cherki at this point - is stop fucking showboating! On at least two occasions Cherki attempted a quick backwards no-look pass with the inside of his foot - needlessly. Such passes are much less accurate than a composed pass - and, IMO, bespeaks of an ego - I'm better than you! - watch this - which is bound to piss of Pep, his teammates, the opposition, and knowledgeable fans - all at once.

A disappointing debut. Not involved in the game and when he did get the ball he gave it away. I think he might do better playing on the right.

Rodri was mixed. Some sloppy passes but also some good passes and interceptions.

+1
Early doors though and too soon to draw firm conclusions either good or bad.

he did some really nice things in those highlights. I have sky high hopes for this young lad. He is constantly looking to be positive and make something happen. He is a high risk player and will give the ball away more than most because of the progressive passes he tries. I'm sure we used to have a player of that description. Wonder how he got on.

Yes, there is lots to like in this clips vid ... I think its just the fact that Reijnders really stood out in the 1st half, that may have overshadowed him somewhat?
