82 | Rico Lewis - 2025/26

Fabian Delph had to play left back instead of midfield. He was the first to admit he struggled in that position, but would do his "utter best". Yet he got the same disgusting treatment on here as Rico has.

Any criticism should be firmly directed at Pep. Posts to suggest otherwise are only showing your limited understanding of football.
Pep has actually put Rico's entire career in jeopardy. Yet Rico hasn't complained for a single minute. He has just got his head down and tried his "utter" best. I never see a lack of commitment in any game.

That is not to say i haven't screamed at him in frustration at times. And more than a few times i have vented when seeing the team sheet. But i quickly remind myself of who is to blame!
Hopefully this season will give us chance to see his real qualities. People will then be in a better position to say whether he is good enough...

Most posters just don't rate Rico and not rating a player doesn't mean that the player is getting disgusting treatment mate.

I have got to say that his reaction after the red card he got was OTT and if it would have been Bellingham he'd have been slaughtered on here.

I think that the majority of comments on BM about individual players are quite fair. Certainly nowhere near the levels of hatred you find on Facebook etc post defeats, poor performances.

It's sometimes worth a quick look at how long some of the hyper-critical posters have been on BM... I've noticed that much of the most anti-player vitriol seems to come from members who have joined BM since covid.

Once Gundo, Kova and Bernardo leave (all likely to be gone next summer) there will be room for him in the 8 position even if we did sign a MGW. Maybe a loan this season would suit all parties if we can bring in a 1st choice RB.

And if people were objectively judging, there would be hardly anyone, last season, who they could praise, Gvardiol apart. Despite that, we finished third.

Useful squad player, always will be until he wants to play week in, week out which isn't happening here no matter the position.

Smart player, just too slight for me tbh.

So if Pep decides to Play Rodri at CB, he wil suddenly turn into a poor player?

A good player can play multiple roles. We signed Kompany as a holding Midfelder and he turned world class at CB.

Rico is limited and wouldn't get a game in any position for any of the top 10 teams in Europe.

He has a good game now and then. Yes he tries his bollox off, but so would I if Pep chucked me a shirt. I'd be utter shite but I would give my all.

Haven't a clue what you must be watching. Still, all about opinions.
Positioning: always available for a pass. Never the man keeping his man onside. Always plays his attacker to the inside.

Decision making: He often knows what he'll fo before he gets the ball. Decides early. Even if its a sideways pass, its immediate. Doesn't dally on the ball. The chance he created for Haaland is a great example of his decision making. Saw the space behind his defenser, pushed into it, knowing he'd draw out one of the defenders keeping an eye on Erling, and passes it as soon as the guy steps forward. Its Rodri-level football intelligence.

Really don't know what some fans are watching. But like you said, its all opinions. But i tend to ground mine in facts.

The facts, ah yes the facts. Like the fact we have a worse record with him playing, fact.
The amount of times he plays the wrong pass in situations where we have a man over is ridiculous. It's not his fault - he's got himself forward, but he has little vision.
As you wish to be antagonistic, it was a clear red, completely reckless and dangerous. Even looked like he made a double movement. Naughty.

I wasn't referring to the more measured comments etc.
The thing is that internet comments do get back to the players. They are only human and do read online posts.
Image you see your own supporters slagging you off for something that is beyond your control.
I've seen comments that he isn't "fit to wear the shirt" and the like.
Until Pep realises that he isn't a right back in any shape or form, the comments are just going to keep coming.
I get mad at Pep, not Rico.

He is a young player learning his craft. I agree he "might" not be good enough to earn a place in his proper position. I just don't feel he has had enough time in his natural position for any judgements to be made.

You do know Rico is 20 right?

If he played for any other club in the league I don’t think anyone would be giving a second thought to the notion of signing him for City.

We all want him to do well because he’s an academy product but I think it’s quite obvious he hasn’t quite got the quality to make it as a right back for any of the top teams in Europe, that’s not to say he won’t have a good career at the lower prem/ higher championship clubs.

Looking at his trophy haul, he's having a pretty good career where he is just now

Not most posters, just some.

I don’t think that’s what we’re talking about but ok.
Forgive me for thinking when you said "he hasn’t quite got the quality to make it as a right back for any of the top teams in Europe, that’s not to say he won’t have a good career at the lower prem/ higher championship clubs", that you meant it

You’re right, we wouldn’t have won any of those trophies without him. Silly me!
