Club World Cup - Summer 2025

It shouldn't really be surprising given it's a tournament made up of continental champions, but I've been pretty impressed at the quality coming from some of the other confederations. Nearly all these teams are capable of hurting even the best sides (with the exception of a few like Auckland).

I'm watching Ulsan v Fluminense, just assumed this would be walkover, but Ulsan are a really capable team, lots of really fluid passing moves. It's a good watch.

Mamelodi earlier today were brilliant at times (though capable of the odd horrendous error). There's a good chance somebody unexpected could go quite deep into the tournament, I reckon.

Some good games so far today.

The 3 Brazilian sides on course to challenge the Europeans in the latter stages.

In the 1994 WC the last 8 had Brazil and 7 European teams.

Anyone watching the 2am Monday morning game? Do channel 5 have a working app? Might watch it in bed.

We have a lot of ex players at this competition
Chelsea boys
Yan Couto Dortmund
Douglas Luiz Juventus
Danilo Flamenco
Brahim Madrid
Alvarez Atletico
Probably a few more than that too.

Domènec Torrent is managing C.F. Monterrey.

He was out assistant manager under Guardiola when he first arrived.

He is actually the longest served assistant of Guardiola. Torrent was with Pep at Barcelona B, Barcelona, Bayern Munchen and Manchester City in the first two seasons. His own manager career didnt go as planned as he had only brief spells at New York City, Flamengo, Galatasaray and now in Mexico (Monterrey is his second club there, the first one was Atletico San Luis). Some coaches are destined to be just that - part of the staff of a great manager but not the leading man themselves.. same can be said for guys like Paul Clement (now assisting Carlo Ancelotti at Brazil, being his loyal coach in clubs like Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and Bayern Munchen) and probably Pep Lijnders (assistant of Rodgers and Klopp at Liverpool, now at City with Pep but failed twice to start his own career as a manager)..

I said before the tournament that I thought the South American teams would cause problems, they're 10 games into their season so fit and ready to go, the European sides will struggle to be anywhere near the same fitness levels considering the long season has barely ended for most of them, with Internationals etc.

Would expect we go for another much changed team, using those not involved against Wydad and look to build fitness as we go through so everyone is rested.

I'm really getting into the idea of a club World Cup now. Pity it's so exhausting for the players. That aside, I think it's a great idea and think the players/clubs will too (not just for the money).
I believe it has a great chance as becoming more popular/prestigious than the World Cup if both are played for every 4 years.
The legacy media have done their best to belittle/ignore it but towards the latter stages it will become must watch viewing (as with national competitions). Especially, as a Mancunian I can still identify with my club whereas I no longer recognise my country as the one I grew up in and have no allegiance to it.

None of the media knockers have once commented on the players. From what I've seen, whatever the team, the reaction from the players, and managers for that matter, when scoring or conceding shows that they actually care about this competition. The fans too.
Not a particular fan of his but heard Tim Vickery say a while back that the South American teams see this as a worthy competition and will really want to go as far as possible.

If you go in the waffle house look for a waitress called Umtitti. I asked her was that her real name & she said yes but she preferred Um. I said I prefer titti.

Titties and knockers. Bluemoon threads never disappoint :)

Was listening to his Brzillian shirt podcast on my flight home yest and Vickery made the point that without the South American teams the attendances would be a disaster and its hard to argue with that.

Its great to see them doing well, would have loved to have watched City play one of them.

I think the competition is spectacular as a proper World Cup of clubs should be. The BBC chose to ignore it but there is nothing they can do to stop it success. That's very unsatisfactory for City fans but I shall enjoy their discomfort particularly if City progress. Sport, business, politics are all connected. We often think football is a different world where we can hide away and relax but state propaganda is all pervasive.

Playing the games at midday on a weekday is problematic from the perspective of playing in the heat and for local fans. The South Americans are there in huge numbers, obviously less for the Europeans. The American fans don't seem to be that engaged. Seattle Sounders and Inter Miami might get big support if they progress and stay local.

It's only the beginning of the tournament. I am really enjoying it, and watching all the games barring those that start around 02:00 GMT.

If City get to the R16 or QFs will the club have tickets on sale like the Group stages or has that boat sailed does anyone know?
That boat may have sailed as those were purchased with the group games and automatically refunded if club doesn’t qualify. We’re staying for the first knockout and doesn’t show in my wallet yet, only when they know which venue. Expect there will be loads on ticketmaster and won’t be at capacity unless we get Real.

Cheers, I thought so, will check Ticketmaster but flight costs bonkers when booked near the time.

Got a few things on so couldn't commit to buying at the start but well deserved reductions for those that did.

And, remember, every supporter who bought, using a club access code, from FIFA, for last 16 onwards, gets their ticket refunded if their club gets knocked out. This means the tickets for teams losing in L16, Qtr, Semi will go back on the market for the next game. Not sure what price they’ll be, but there will be availability.

Got tickets for the Juve match in Orlando. Drive over on Wednesday and head to Murphy's Pub.
Looks like it will be a good day there....Shaunie and Lescott in attendance, other fun stuff going on.
Match on Thursday, then back to Murphy's. Looking forward to meeting the Orlando crew (and anyone from BM who make it over).
Last time I saw them was the Chelsea European Cup Final. Not the best fookin day!
Hopefully better memories this time around
