Club World Cup - Summer 2025

slowly looking like the saemis could be all european teams

hopefully not otherwise it make it even more of a mockery

Would that really be bad thing? If we aren’t going to win the competition, wouldn’t it be better to go out sooner rather than later? The players could have a decent rest and then we could regroup and prepare for the PL season.

Obviously we’d lose out financially and miss the kudos of winning the trophy. But we’d probably be better prepared for next season.

And if we were to beat RM it would set us up nicely for the rest of the tournament.

Better than muddling through 2 or 3 matches against average opposition and then losing to the first strong team we face?
How about we beat anyone they put in front of us.
Just my glass half full perspective.
Best team in the World, guaranteed for 4 years, now that would have the darlings of the media and their supporters crying in their breakfast, dinner and tea for 4 whole years.
What’s not to like.

It's a mockery that Liverpool and United aren't there. Would make it even more of a mockery if City and Chelsea play each other in the semis :)

Seriously, it is only natural if European teams make the semis, they have the better players.

Let's hope City are one of them.

Anyone know how much city got for participating? On the FIFA website European teams get between 13-38 mil (USD) for taking part but this is based on criteria. We have also got 4 mil for winning 2 games, get another 7.25 for being in the next round so we could have earned 40mil USD already.

By enabling global competition, South American and Asian teams can improve. Palmeiras, Botafogo and Flamengo have qualified. They might be joined by River Plate and Fluminese. I think a European side will win it but the South American sides have been strong.

Rivals inventing pathetic arguments against it, on political grounds, or because their teams aren't in it, should be mocked.

The Spanish are doing a fair bit of moaning about it too, don't know about other European countries.
Its even more important now that teams qualify for the champions league and perform when they get there.
I think teams like Barcelona got caught out and it is paining them.

this is just making football even more ridiculous - to make the cost of failure so high that you either over-stretch yourself to breaking point to try and compete or just accept your lot as a 7th to 10th place team for eternity.

We fought the idea of cartel clubs pulling up the drawbridge to success and now we're firmly part of it. This CWC has a $1bn prize pot across all prizes, it just seems to be making rich clubs richer (though i concede it throws a few mill the way of those who get a win or two).

Forever football. It's not positive for the game.

Thats true.
Money breeds money.

CL the same, distorting leagues, ESL incoming.

If City set up a good last 16 tie, will more blues go out for to the USA for games?

The support for the South American clubs and Real Madrid has been very impressive. City seem well supported but not on the scale of Real Madrid who have the advantage of large Hispanic populations in America
