Club World Cup - Summer 2025

If City set up a good last 16 tie, will more blues go out for to the USA for games?

The support for the South American clubs and Real Madrid has been very impressive. City seem well supported but not on the scale of Real Madrid who have the advantage of large Hispanic populations in America
I think we have incredible support out there.

I looked at going out again for the QFs but the cost of flights looks like it will put me off. Will have to be booked late so costly.

this is just making football even more ridiculous - to make the cost of failure so high that you either over-stretch yourself to breaking point to try and compete or just accept your lot as a 7th to 10th place team for eternity.

We fought the idea of cartel clubs pulling up the drawbridge to success and now we're firmly part of it. This CWC has a $1bn prize pot across all prizes, it just seems to be making rich clubs richer (though i concede it throws a few mill the way of those who get a win or two).

Forever football. It's not positive for the game.

It's just a continuation of the CL's distorting effect on European competition. There needs to be a fairer way of distributing CL and CWC money, weighted to the participating leagues rather than only the clubs, imho.

Thinking ahead a little bit, does anyone know what the distribution of tickets is for the final? Do City get given an allocation for behind the goal?

I know they have released tickets for the final already, but I can’t find any information out there saying there’s additional tickets for teams who have made the final. I’m not going back out for the knockouts but I would seriously be tempted to go for the final, IF we make it.

Anyone know how much city got for participating? On the FIFA website European teams get between 13-38 mil (USD) for taking part but this is based on criteria. We have also got 4 mil for winning 2 games, get another 7.25 for being in the next round so we could have earned 40mil USD already.
We need every penny. The competition itself has not captured the public imagination home or abroad. Not sure it will survive for long, in the current format and timing anyway.

£40 million so far for getting out of the group £25 million if we win it and if we did get to the final and win the total would be £97 million
The maximum is £92.46m if paid today. The Dollar in a downward trend against Sterling for over 5 months.

slowly looking like the saemis could be all european teams

hopefully not otherwise it make it even more of a mockery
Like the 2018 work cup - France, Belgium, England, Croatia. Or 2006 WC or 1982, one of the early ones when hardly anyone travelled.

Not captured the imagination in the UK, but if two of the red cartel had been involved it would have been a completely different matter. As for abroad i believe you are mistaken. It has been well watched in South America, Africa, Spain, Italy France and Germany and the middle East.

IMO it is here to stay.

If we make it!
It would be great if Etihad put a few MAN-
JFK specials on…

There will definitely be tickets available for the final, as supporters of the teams who lost in the semi’s, if they bought via club/FIFA, can have tickets refunded. Of course, no idea what price they will be. If you want a shock, just check Ticketmaster now for the current prices [emoji15]

Little England again.

It’s been brilliant so far and will get better as it gets to knockout.

Clubs poo pooing it are the same ones asking for it to be expanded.

Timing won’t change. I can see it going from two per country max to three though.

I'd prefer if the participating clubs got a percentage and the rest is spread through their league. A bit like what Auckland are doing apparently.

But, clubs have been happy to bank champions league money without a thought to the rest of their league for decades, so I'm mot going to get too upset about it.

When the rags, scousers, tarquins etc give up some of "their" champions league money then I'll start screaming about how unfair this club world cup is.

How do you know that? Have you been following the media round the world. Am fairly certain there is just as much scepticism in likes of Spain or Germany to name but two.
There’s nothing like the fuss there is here.

Just look at the BBC…if I said over 1.4 million people had attended the games at an average attendance of 38,000 would you think that had been reported correctly?

Brits don't like change. Happened with the WC and EC when they first started.

Thats true.
Money breeds money.

CL the same, distorting leagues, ESL incoming.

yep all fair points on the CL, it has been doing the same job for years. But the point about the ever-ossifying effect of money on the game still stands, and is made worse by this cup. We will never, ever, as a club complain about the money but it's still a talking point on the future of the game.

I can see a junction in the not too distant future where the top clubs can't be arsed with smaller ones and want a breakaway league (again) and the smaller (poorer) clubs can't be arsed with the unlevel playing field and welcome the split.

I’ve seen them, £700 for the cheapest. I can’t see myself spending that sort of money, perhaps anything below £500 then maybe.

Couldn't agree more. With adequate compensation they will welcome it.

I don’t think most brits are actually bothered about this tournament though. In fact I bet most uk based city fans aren’t even watching it.

There is no way I pay more than £150.00 for a ticket anywhere or any game.

Been watching City since birth but I would rather go and view in the pub or some event than pay more than that. Read somewhere that peops go off to places like Benidorm for big events outside of football and have a great time for a fraction of the cost.

Maybe City could organise something at the ground ala Wigan play off if the beer prices were sorted.
