Pep Guardiola - 2025/26

Sure, but against Juve it was 90 minutes. I think we are just mentally weak right now, and their early goal really screw our confidence. I think the 45 min from today would be our best 45 min from last season.

As I said, I understand people are emotional, but I think it was a really positive showing and with Gvardiol and Rodri at their usual level, this wouldn't happen. Clearly our exoerienced Cb are not good enough though.
As long as we play a high line with Dias and no effective press I'm afraid it's going to be the same as last season even with Rodri back, either our press improves massively or we drop Dias for Khusanov who has some recovery pace, otherwise I don't see it.

Why Gundo is getting game time is mind-boggling at this point.

He's obviously on the way out, why would you not give the time to Nico G or Cherki?

I think Pep is loyal, and I think the loyalty is costing the team, and until there is a full-scale clear out, nothing will change.

I thought the team selection was fine. We created four 1 v 1s in the first half and they cleared another off the line.

Gundo was fine. Bernardo was good. Savio was hot or miss. It happens. Shouldn't be losing to Al Hilal, but hey :(

But why did he revert back to the crap of last year?

Ait Nouri was never allowed to hold the width, Nunes as well.

It was wide wingers over and over again.

Poor game management, just like in most tight matches or when we’re behind. If Foden and Cherki had come on around the 60th minute, we wouldn’t have even needed extra time. Pep always waits too long to make changes, or sometimes doesn’t make them at all. He continues to trust players who are clearly past their best, and defensively, he’s just not an elite defensive coach, that’s been our biggest issue over the past year, and he’s nowhere near solving it.

We also lack the tools to break down deep bunkers consistently. Too much of our attacking play relies on individual brilliance rather than a clear system.

It might not be a popular take, but Pep is part of the problem right now-not the solution. He’s the greatest of all time, no question but you can’t keep repeating the same mistakes and expect different results.

I’m so bored of saying the same thing. Time and time again. It’s the same old song.

He’s obsession with the old guard. Putting them ahead of everyone it doesn’t matter how good the new player is.

He factory reseted today.

How the managing staff allowed him to invert Nunes, start Gundo and Bernardo and make Savio x Doku hold width like last season is beyond criminal.

We were supposed to leave games like this behind.

When will we be free from this frustration

Agree . ATM he is the problem and will cost us the title as if we play like he wants we won’t even challenge .

What do people expect? You think Pep is suddenly not gonna play his favourites? Gundo Ake Silva Stones Akanji will all be starters if fit. It wont change
The club has made changes around him - different coaches and more new signings - but Guardiola will continue to play the same core of players if they’re still available to him.

Ultimately I don’t think he wants to rebuild the side as he doesn’t see the need to - he said as much at the end of last season.

Will be fascinating to see which players the club moves on during the remainder of the transfer window. At the moment I couldn’t really say who will leave - established, senior players or our younger players going out on loan.

But the question is, why exactly are they his favourites at this point? High game reading IQ? Surely their game reading IQ can't be that high and yet their practical application of this "game reading IQ" to the game itself ends up giving us clumsy errors, or is it a case of reading the game perfectly well but not being able to apply that effectively to the game due to injuries or poor fitness?

I think its loyalty to past achievements he would rather die on his sword than bench or cast off his loyal servants

For me, It all comes back to that press conference he did and he made comments along the lines of I will always remember those who were with us in the tough times.

They said Akanji and Ake etc but themselves through the pain barrier and made themselves available when others didn’t which is why Pep is now rewarding that loyalty

Pep is too much of a professional to play old boys union politics with his team. He needs to get back to that shark team mentality
